Named after the exact location in Siberia where Escoda sources its Kolinsky-Tajmyr Sable, Reserva Series Brushes are crafted using only the tail hairs from the male Kolinsky — renowned for their springiness and capacity to retain liquids. Selection of fine materials, as well as Escoda's unique "curing" process, results in a watercolor brush that many artists consider to be perhaps the finest in the world.

Escoda's Reserva Kolinsky-Tajmyr Pointed Round is unusually resilient, holds sharp points and crisp edges, and has terrific color holding capacity. Tufts are beautifully shaped of fine and evenly sized hairs, tightly packed at the ferrule edge.

Escoda's curing process results in a snappy core that gives the brush extra resilience. The short burgundy lacquered wood handle carries a triple crimped nickel-plated golden brass ferrule.

Kolinsky Sable Set — Six-piece Series 1212 set, ideal for the watercolor painter, includes round brushes in sizes 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, with a gold-plated ferrule, and the finest Kolinsky sable hair available.

Series 1214 — Pop this clever little Escoda travel brush into a pocket or plein air box. It's ready for the road at a moment's notice! Hidden within its golden chamber resides a regular length, pure Escoda Kolinsky-Tajmyr Kolinsky Sable Pointed Round brush.

Can be used to hold enough paint for major washes while remaining rigid enough to direct and control the dosage. The point remains tight and well-formed even when holding a heavy wash. I find the same pleasure as with the WN series seven, but at a lower price and with a little more rigidity - nice for control when trying to master working fast.

I was impressed by the travel brushes I bought a year or so ago, and I have since completed the 1214 set and purchased a set of 1212 Reserva brushes as well. They are good to work with, hold a good amount of fluid and maintain an excellent point. Although they seem a little smaller than equivalent brush sizes in other brands I have used, in other respects they perform just as well as the more expensive brands.

For watercolor, my No. 10 brush can hold a good amount of water for juicy washes and is responsive enough for fine detail work when needed. Very resilient and snaps to a precise point every time. Craftsmanship is superb. At time of purchase, I was able to get four brushes for the price of one of a well-known brand. More than worth what I paid for.
