I work with watercolors and I have tried a lot of different brushes and these are my favorites.
I don't know if they are expensive or not but these brushes last a long time and will quickly become your only round brush.
They hold a lot of water, and the pointy tip is as pointy and perfect as when I first bought them a year or so ago. They are firmer than a regular sable but soft enough to draw beautiful lines. You can use these to cover medium sized areas as well as to do detail work.
The other one I suggest from Escoda is their Aquario squirrel mop which is perfect for washes. I bought mine as part of the Zbukvic brush set 2.

I only mention the NWS Signature member status to emphasis my long devotion to watercolor. I have painted for many years with Kolinski Sable only! Their is no other!! But these brushes... something is very different. Synthetic. God forbid. First off, it holds the right amount of water. It maintains the tip shape. It does not slop around like so many natural brushes tend to do. (Yes, even the venerable Kolinski sable). It is very durable, which at the current price is the deal of the century. I cannot recommend these brushes high enough. Buy a size 12. Give it some time. Switch back and forth from your current brush to this one. You will be amazed.

This series 1430 is a great brush; it holds enough water to be efficient and hold a great point. These two issues makes it a brush "for all seasons"

I was looking for a round that held enough paint but didn't glob onto the paper when paint application began. This brush holds the paint so well, and the smooth application helps me to be in control without releasing too much paint. It cleans easily, retains the point VERY well, and feels like a dream in use. I love this brush and will be getting several sizes.

I really like these brushes. I saw Greg Allen using them in his DVD and gave them a try. The rounds really come to a great point and hold their shape.

I have been impressed by Escoda brushes for some time, but I was looking for something a little firmer than Kolinski sable. Escoda brushes appear to be a little smaller than equivalent sizes in other brands, but these brushes are well priced, look good, are well made and flick to a good point. They also appear to be less prone to hooking at the ends than other synthetic brushes I have used.
