Comments about Escoda Optimo Kolinsky Sable Watercolor Brushes:
I hesitated to purchase this Escoda Sable Brush, I am glad that I did purchase it. I have used Yarka sables for years and was disappointed that they are not on the market anymore. I used this Escoda Optimomthis week and am very pleased with it. Great brush and price.

The brush itself was an excellent price. But once the shipping and handling was added in, the expense was high. That is the reason I didn't rate it "A fantastic deal".
Not a brush, a marker
This brush lost its tip immediately. Fortunately, the first time I used it, all I needed were fat solid lines with no personality.I got the size 2, and while it was indeed capable of producing a size 2 line, I doubt it can do anything else.Choose the Da Vinci Maestro or the Windsor Newton Series 7.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pricedy but Worthwhile

I use these brushes mainly for thinned acrylic paint. Let's face it: these brushes are quite pricey. But you almost get what you pay for. They hold the paint well and offer superb control. I take care of my brushes, so I'd like them to last a bit longer than they do. I'm as bit rough on brushes when I use them. Even so, other brushes I've had have lasted longer, but have not performed as well.

When purchasing watercolor brushes I get the best that I can afford. With the scarcity of the Russian sables I was familiar with, I an trying these. So far, so good. I haven't used them for any length of time, which is a definite advantage to fine brushes. No shedding of hairs, remain soft after use, retains fine point, on flats holds edge, creates clean lines, deposits color evenly, holds paint well ... so far, they compare well to more expensive brushes. But still love my tried and true brushes of 25 years!
Love These Brushes
The Escoda Kolinsky Sable Watercolor brushes hold a lot of water for washes and paint. They glide across the watercolor paper with just the right amount of paint covering larger or smaller areas. They hold up fantastic holding a fine point or a chisel edge with flats. I don't abuse these brushes and never use them for scrubbing so they will last years to come. Some of my Kolinsky brushes are over 25 years old and still hold their shape.I clean my brushes in between paintings and always store upright while drying or hanging them so they maintain their beautiful shape. These brushes are one of my favorites while using watercolor. I'm sure they are useful for other mediums but these brushes and watercolor go together like love.
I had to return it
I had to return the number 10 brush. It didn't keep a point while painting. I have other Escada brushes which I love. I was very disappointed with it.
