Escoda's Series 2410 brush is a Optimo Kolinksy Round in an oil painting format, with a long wooden handle. The fine haired Kolinsky sable forms a soft tuft with a fine point, great for delicate, controlled work. Escoda cures the hair, resulting in a brush with remarkable spring and resilience.

The long, lacquered blue wooden handle offers superb control. It's attached to the nickel-plated brass ferrule via Escoda's exclusive triple crimping process.

I absolutely love these brushes. For about a year now Silverbrush Blackpearl synthetics were my brand of choice for oil painting, but the Optimo series is now top choice. The kolinsky sable these are made of has a great spring, as well as strong carrying capacity for oils.

What I like most is the shape; the way the filbert tapers to a fine point makes everything easier somehow. I suspect its the way the brush morphs to a normal filbert shape when loaded with paint, whereas a typical filbert brush will morph to a flat shape with use, losing detail as you work. With the Escoda the point is always there, so you can create thin streaks, then transition right into broad strokes by pressing harder, then press harder still for smooth gradations, and with a dab at the palette start all over again from the point. The sable handles all of this beautifully.

Only time will tell, but for now these seem to hold bristles as long as a nice synthetic while being easier to clean. The only downside is the cost, but if you take the time to prevent paint from building up near the handle these should last a very long time without losing their awesome shape dynamics. I can't think of an area of brushwork where this series doesn't excel, except perhaps covering large areas of course. When it comes to fine detail and shading, such as portraiture, I've yet to find a better brush. Highly recommended.
