Welcome to dickblick
The fine haired Escoda Optimo Kolinsky sable forms a soft brush head, which is great for delicate, controlled work. Escoda cures the brush hair resulting in remarkable spring and resilience.
The long, lacquered blue wood handle offers superb control. It's attached to the nickel-plated brass ferrule via Escodas exclusive triple crimping process.

I bought this flat for oil painting on paper and board for smaller portraiture and illustration work. I like the quality of material used in the brush tip; it is the right length for heavy pressure strokes or light soft strokes. It is accurate and responsive the long handle provides for a range of motion.

For detail, these Escoda optima Kolinsky sable detailer brushes are the very best. They have "fat bellies" but come to an incredibly sharp point. They are the best detail brushes for watercolor made in my humble opinion.

Great Quality Brush

I use this brush to create fine blended strokes in my paintings. Nothing seems to work better than Kolinsky Sable. I use other Kolinsky brushes of various sizes to smooth out details, blur lines etc. I don't always like to blend strokes, it depends on the scene.
I am very pleased with the service.

I paint small items with acrylic. Synthetic brushes are cheaper but are not useful for very long. The Kolinsky brushes are expensive but they are well worth the price. They last much longer than synthetics and painting with them is wonderful!
Escoda Optimo Kolinsky sable #2 round
By Lon the ole artist
I needed a brush for fine detail esp. hair on a fox I was painting. Also for doing fine lines. The #2 rd. comes to a nice point. I'm an oil painter. However, it was smaller than I expected, so will probably order a few sizes larger next time. Thanks D. Blick for quick service! L. Cain-Spfld. Il.

Unbelievable, ...I am 72 years old and have been painting for 62 years. However, most of the materials I use (other than paints and canvases) were purchased years ago ...and over a long period of time. As a consequence I have amassed many oil painting materials ...and many expensive sable brushes ...over these years. But recently I became unhappy with my red sable brushes and started looking for a few new ones, ...and found Kolinsky brushes on the DickBlick page. I ordered a few but didn't expect the amazing brushes I received. In the past I spent 2-3x for my inferior red sable brushes compared to the new Kolinsky brushes. I can only surmise that this situation occurred because the top quality sable used for today's Kolinsky brushes was in very short supply during the Cold War years? So now I'm planning my next purchase of additional Kolinsky brushes. :-)

I have long used Escoda travel brushes for watercolor and enjoyed their excellent quality. They come to a sharp point and have a nice spring as well. Now that I have begun working in oil, I have tried these and not been disappointed. They have a beautiful point and are wonderful for detail work. Highly recommended.
The Escoda family is known for crafting some of the finest brushes available. The Optimo series is a long handle brush made from a 50/50 blend of the finest male and female kolinsky sable hair to achieve the optimal results for discerning oil and acrylic artists.
