Escoda Opera Takatsu is a synthetic filament that has a feel that is almost identical to traditional sable, but much more robust.
The extra natural spring and resilience of the blended filaments makes it an excellent choice for acrylics and oils. The Escoda curing process creates a brush head that consistently snaps back to its original shape.
The long, red-lacquered wood handle is triple crimped to the nickel-plated brass ferrule.
Filbert, Series 3060
A "cat's tongue" profile is characteristic of the tip of this Spanish style filbert, allowing for both the traditional filbert brush stroke and finer, more detailed work.

Best brushes for acrylics and oils
from Atlanta, GA
Comments about Escoda Opera Takatsu Synthetic Brushes:
I have used Escoda watercolor brushes for a long time and loved them, but just recently started working with acrylics and water soluble oils too. Their Opera series is by far my favorite and just recently ordered several rounds and bigger brushes. If you want heavy impasto these may not suit you, but if you are looking for a smoother look, these brushes are perfect.

Favorite brush maker

Long-time fan of Escoda Optimo Kolinsky. But they aren't available anymore due to bans under endangered species act. It was a good push in the right direction and I'm pleased that Escoda has responded by producing some stellar synthetic brushes. Been using these brushes non-stop since they arrived. Delighted.

Will last with good care
By Boy from Brazil
from Hilo hi.
After reading first review I checked my #10 filbert it also was starting to curl. At the same time my w&n and Princeton syn. Mongoose were also curling. What had changed was the new way of washing my brushes. I started to use water mixable oils so I used a brush tub with liquid dish detergent, worked great but it was harsh on the fine filaments. This is the way I now clean my brushes. Wipe brush with rag, dip brush into small container of canola oil ( cheaper than linseed oil ) wipe with rag, finish with bar soap, rinse with warm water. With the bar of soap and brush build up a lather, now shape bristles and allow to dry. It will take several cleanings but it saved my brushes. The escoda opera is a well made brush. It's stiffer than the prado but softer than the modernista also excellent brushes. I'm glad this brush can be used by me for many canvases to come.

Good, but didn't last long
from Duluth, MN
I bought a few of the cat's tongue filberts in February, and by May the hairs had almost all splayed permanently. That said, they were great while they lasted. The handles are very well balanced and the brushes can be held in comfort for a long painting session. The hairs have just the right amount of spring for pushing paint around in the finishing stages of the painting. But, I think for the price (or lower) you can find other brushes that will last longer.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
