Worth the Extra Cost
By Scottie G.
from Park Ridge / Chicago
Comments about Escoda Grafilo Kolinsky Tajmyr Sable Round:
The Escoda Grafilo Kolinsky Tajmyr Sable brush has come to be my most favorite of all brushes for its intended use. When I first came across this brush, I purchased one to ascertain whether the extra cost was worth it in value. I can assure you it is. While other brushes that are slightly less in cost by 20-30%, the other brushes do not hold up as well as this one. The Tajmyr Sable has proven to have more spring to bounce back into shape, and its hairs weather the storm better than others with less breakage and frizzing. All in all, the Escoda Grafilo Kolinsky Tajmyr Sable is the brush that I now purchase most often and has become my new level of standards. A 5-Star overall value and worth the extra cost!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My favorite brush
By Len likes Horses
from Waverly Hall, GA
These brushes are not inexpensive, even at Blick prices. Frankly, I couldn't afford them at all if I were buying retail. I have been buying one or two at a time, adding at lease one with each order and now have eleven. You can be sure that other sizes will come with each future orders. I could have more brushes but not more quality. The smaller sizes are great for the detail. I like to allow some pigment to remain in the brush when I transition and blend to an adjacent area and the larger ones are ideal for this.I have a lot of other brushes but I have only been buying these ever since I got my first one.
Great brushes worth the price!

I compared one of the Grafilo Kolinsky Tajmyr brushes with an Escoda Opera and loved it. Enough that I ordered more of the Tajmyrs. Firmer than the synthetics, though both are very well-made.

Big Time Brush
Im going to use this brush for oil painting because I wanted a softer version round than a typical bristle brush. I compared it to a Windsor Newton series 7 size 6 brush which seems a little longer and fuller in the belly which is good for inks and watercolor , but since I'm using this brush for oil painting it responds nicely to higher viscosity of oil; you can push it for heavy paint and it touches nicely in the tip for line work. A pin point tip that retains shape use after use. This Escoda line is one of my favorites.

Great brushes requiring some adjustment
By DW Lynch

So far I've used these brushes for watercolor and just a little inking. They're very nicely made and preform very well. When dry the bristles seems to fan out a bit but once wet, they take and fold a very nice, firm shape. Additionally, the limited amount of dry brushing I've done has gone well. The brush handles have a very attractive finish and a joy to hold, however they are a bit longer than I am used to and I find myself choking up on the ferule more than I have with the Windsor Newton Series 7 when working on detail. There is something of a learning curve between the two brushes but it thankfully does not seem to be very steep at all.The wooden box seems somewhat superfluous to my own uses but I don't paint outdoors.

Just the feel of the handle lets you know that this is a well crafted brush. The tip comes to an excellent point as expected from a Kolinsky. The hairs are supple and soft yet springy. These are probably the best Kolinsky brushes for oil painting that I've ever painted with.

not bad at all
from San Angelo, TX
This brush is slightly stiffer than I expected and than another brand I got in a similar price range. It is a very nice high quality brush (the carving is nice, too) and works well, but I think the rounded filbert does a little better at eliminating brush strokes.
