Escoda's Black Sable — also known as fitch or polecat hair — is less stiff than light ox hair at around the same price. An alternative to bristle, this handcrafted brush is often used when painting with thinned oil colors for more detailed work.
Escoda specially cures each brush for increased resiliency and versatility, making it a pleasure to use. The long, red, lacquered handle offers plenty of control, and is attached to the nickel ferrule using Escoda's exclusive triple crimping process.

Comments about Escoda Black Sable Oil Brushes:
Initially I really loved these brushes. Then about two weeks in to using them (i purchased variety of sizes and shspes), they all began losing absurd amounts of hair, so much that my brights now ressemble really bad rounds. I am frusrated especially since i took proper care of them and they are quite expensive. Beware, while Escoda might be a well respected brush line, this particular line proved to be VERY sub par and a waste of money.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I use Escoda brushes all the time; my favorites were out of stock so I ordered these; as someone who does detailed controlled work I was disappointed how poorly they were laid - scraggly, poorly pointed, lacking flexibility, length, unusable for me. I recommend an upgrade; perhaps to Escoda 3715 -
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear the black sable isn't to your liking, and of course we were happy to assist with a return. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know!

The brushes arrived in excellent condition and are sturdy and a comfortable to use. I am using the brushes for small renderings on canvas and the bristles and enable me to render small details. The brushes are very useful.

I just purcheased 3 Escoda Black Sable Oil Brushes, bright, the largest was the size 24. Thes are great brushes....Soft...Just bearly stiff enough to hold there shape....Great finishing brush for portraits. These are not what you need to push around oil paint straight out of the tube....But these are great for those final touches or if you paint with very thin paint. So far there great...If they start to lose any hairs I'll repost
Alt. to DaVinci's Black Sable Rounds
I lost enthusiasm for DaVinci's red sable and black sable Round Brushes when the hairs began to splay after a mild amount of use. Here is probably the best alternative on DickBlick.com, the Escoda Black Sable brushes. It is a great finishing brush with great utility for use with thinned paint, you will also appreciate the triangular tip on their black sable Filberts!
