Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Inks offer powerful color in a convenient dropper-stopper glass bottle. These highly pigmented India inks not only remain lightfast and permanent, but are also totally waterproof when dry. They adhere to nearly all surfaces and are non-clogging when used in pens.

Inks can be diluted with water and used with brushes in traditional watercolor techniques or in dip pens, technical drawing pens, and airbrushes. All colors are brilliant and transparent, except Black and White, which are opaque and have excellent covering power.

Round Set 1 — Includes twelve 1 oz dropper bottles of ink in Red, Magenta, Bright Red, Yellow, White, Black, Violet, Blue, Grass Green, Brown, Teal, and Green.

Round Set 2 — Includes twelve 1 oz dropper bottles of ink in Golden Yellow, Orange, Tangerine, Crimson, Cherry Red, Red Violet, Aqua, Turquoise, Yellow Ochre, Terra Cotta, Van Dyke Brown, and Sepia.

Set of 12 — Yellow, Red, Magenta, Green, Blue, Brown, Violet, White, three bottles of Black, and a bottle of cleaner. 1 oz (30 ml) glass bottles.

My daughter uses these inks for her ceramic projects...and since she has made it in the Texas State Competitions the two times she tried, I am sure that she knows which products to use that make the most impact and won't fail her!

I write in journals constantly and enjoy using quill pens, nibs, dipping ink and such. For me it's kind of a toss up between these Dr Ph Martin's Bombay India inks and Daler Rowney FW ink. I use them interchangeably, and they each have their strengths. They are both awesome. I really like the shimmer and finish of the Bombay inks. They do stain the nibs a bit worse than the FW ink, but I found Rapido-Eze Pen Cleaning fluid takes it off without much effort. Plus, interestingly enough, if you follow the Bombay ink with a dip in FW ink, for some reason the compounds in the FW ink break down those in the Bombay ink, acting like a cleaner.

I use these inks for everything, they have replaced almost all other drawing (& painting) media for me. This is because they are so versatile, that, I can use them across the board from sketching to finished work. Not to mention they are permanent, light-fast, and vibrant. I can't reveal all of my secrets here, all I can say is TRY THEM! Hi-Carb black is the best black on the market. If you want to buy just one to try out, this is it.

One more note: The manufacturer recommends that you should add a drop or two of rubbing alcohol to this ink when using it with any kind if pen. This is to increase flow and prevent clumping and clogging. (I've just found this to be most helpful and thought that it should be mentioned somewhere.

I borrowed this from an artist friend who was working on a watercolor piece. I loved the brilliant magenta and purple tones and mixed it with acrylic paint as an experiment. It's absolutely amazing! I'm getting my own set now...

I have been using this ink to write on mixed media projects using mostly canvas and papers in conjunction with watercolors and acrylic paints. It is wonderfully waterproof and the colors are strikingly vivid! I love them! I would gladly pay double for these inks. The bottle size really is substantial.

I found this to be even better than I expected. The color is vibrant and the applications are almost limitless. There are so many companies coming out with India Ink now, it's difficult to choose. I have really enjoyed using this as Calligraphy ink as well as for distressing, stamping and color washing. I am sure that I will think of other uses as well, and the amount in the bottle allows me to experiment freely.

These colors are brilliant, gorgeous, and fun to work with, but they do fade dramatically if exposed to any sunlight.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Merchant response: The vendor would like to note that no artwork (no matter which brand of product) should ever be displayed in sunlight unless it is covered with ultra-violet absorbing glass, acetate, or plexiglass.
All the Bombay colors are fine artist pigments and have a lightfast rating of #1 except for 3BY Magenta and 9BY Violet which are a #2.

Painting with Dr Ph Martin's is terrific. Great washing and layering effects with high contrast. Will never go back to watercolor. Only negative is that it stinks when you first open the bottle, but hey, we can not all be perfect!
