Welcome to dickblick
Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Inks offer powerful color in a convenient dropper-stopper glass bottle. These highly pigmented India inks not only remain lightfast and permanent, but are also totally waterproof when dry. They adhere to nearly all surfaces and are non-clogging when used in pens.
Inks can be diluted with water and used with brushes in traditional watercolor techniques or in dip pens, technical drawing pens, and airbrushes. All colors are brilliant and transparent, except Black and White, which are opaque and have excellent covering power.

Great, vibrant colors, but stay away from the browns!
By WI Bookworm
from Okemos, MI
I've been using these inks with my dip pens as well as a substitute for watercolors, and I couldn't be happier! The colors are so vibrant, and the coverage very smooth and even. I also love the satin finish once they dry.A few cons:1) Stay away from the browns, and Yellow Ochre. (They're the reason I took one star away.) I've found that they don't give that nice, even coverage like the other colors (even after a solid stir), and they lack the satin finish I love so much. If you absolutely must get a brown, get the one labeled "Brown" (Sepia, Terra Cotta, and VanDyke are the worst culprits.)2) Being pigment-based, they tend to settle quickly, so you'll need to give them a good stir before using them. If you do buy the browns, some will need to be shaken frequently, sometimes while you're painting, which can get in the way of work flow.3) Despite being advertised as permanent, these don't work with Copic Markers. I was excited to try these out for colored line art, so I drew up a few tests and allowed them to dry for 24 hours. They worked perfectly against watercolors, but the alcohol markers were too much for them.Other notes:1) The white is very opaque, and gives great coverage over other colors and inks, even when diluted. (See photo below for pen tests.)2) The black has a very matte finish compared to other India inks I have used.Overall: A great purchase! You won't be disappointed :)

India ink for black backgrounds
from Roswell, GA
I use India ink to make black backgrounds. This works great and doesn't cause the paper to curl.
from Beverly, MA
I've been creating alot of postcard art with these inks, using 91% alcohol, watercolor papers and ending up with some gorgeous designs which I then embellish with gel inks to make floral designs. The effects of the alcohol on the inks are glorious! The colors are so true and bright. I've never used india inks that dry so beautifully or which produce such amazing colors. These are a MUST HAVE for any artists' supplies!

I look forward to using these for watercolor, but I've started out using them in calligraphy and sketching with a dip pen. These have been the best inks I've used yet!My aunt also borrowed some for calligraphy and loved them!

This has become my "go to" medium. Colors are brilliant when dry and have a very thin schelac like finish which appears to be water resistant. The inks can be blended, used directly out of the bottle, or thinned with water and work great on watercolor paper.
