Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Inks offer powerful color in a convenient dropper-stopper glass bottle. These highly pigmented India inks not only remain lightfast and permanent, but are also totally waterproof when dry. They adhere to nearly all surfaces and are non-clogging when used in pens.
Inks can be diluted with water and used with brushes in traditional watercolor techniques or in dip pens, technical drawing pens, and airbrushes. All colors are brilliant and transparent, except Black and White, which are opaque and have excellent covering power.

a good assortment. But nobody anywhere makes a brown with no red in it, like a grayish brown. I do use lots of orange though,
Favorite India Inks
from Indianapolis, IN
I use this product for lining watercolor illustrations with a brush or stand-alone ink drawings/paintings, and the black and colors are amazingly saturated. I have always been using their black over Higgins, and I love the shade of black more with Dr Ph Martin's. I've also diluted this and used it in a pentel aquash water brush, and it works beautifully without clogging the brush.I purchased the teal and magenta recently, and I am in love with both shades with my watercolors. I intend to buy more to experiment with them, but I definitely recommend the magenta if you use warmer shades and want a warm color for inking your lines instead of using black.
This ink flows nicely and is very pigmented. It's a great alternative to watercolor when you need the permanence for unframed artwork and looks beautiful in illustrations.
Bombay inks are always the best
By Cas, Drawing Major

I use Bombay inks to paint and to write, they are versatile, rich in color, and combine with other mediums as well (I combine them with watercolor and the two compliment eachieve other so well).
Great product! Well packed. dropper is dandy too!
I use this with a Japanese Calligraphy brush and love it.
Vibrant Colors and Tons of FUN
from Detroit, MI
I've been toying around with these for a couple of weeks now and they are so much fun. They are AMAZING undiluted as a brush lettering medium but I have the most fun with them creating watercolor backgrounds and filling in color as a watercolor medium. They react with alcohol as well for some fun effects. I would not categorize them as an alternative to traditional watercolors, but you can dilute them on a palette and get lighter washes as well. They dry very quickly, so wash off your palette quickly or it is a pain, and I would recommend using the brush cleaner immediately after use as well. The only thing I don't love is that you can not re-wet them once dry, so if you thinking of using them to make a travel palette and just letting a few drops dry to use later on, you should consider the hydrus line. Overall, they are a good value, and create beautiful, lightfast vibrant results.
Best Calligraphy inks I have tried so far
from Duluth, MN
I have tried a few inks for calligraphy and detailed pen and nib drawings, and Bombay's India Inks are by far my favorite. These inks are amazing for their waterproof design, it makes for a simple and worry free watercolor color wash. The inks are also efficient as I do not have to re-dip often. Pairs nicely with Speedball nibs
