Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Inks offer powerful color in a convenient dropper-stopper glass bottle. These highly pigmented India inks not only remain lightfast and permanent, but are also totally waterproof when dry. They adhere to nearly all surfaces and are non-clogging when used in pens.
Inks can be diluted with water and used with brushes in traditional watercolor techniques or in dip pens, technical drawing pens, and airbrushes. All colors are brilliant and transparent, except Black and White, which are opaque and have excellent covering power.

Comments about Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Inks:
I have just started using these inks as I would watercolours, and am very impressed with how beautiful the colours are. The best thing about these inks is that they are lightfast, which is idea for commissioned artworks. I highly recommend these for illustration and fine art pieces.A slightly negative aspect, just like watercolour, these inks are prone to bloom, but a good sable brush and careful work should reduce unwanted blooms. If you wish to produce blooms (as in wet-on-wet work), this is an ideal product!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Have been practicing with it. A little different than some other mediums that I have used.
Colors great, don't work well in Koh-I-Nor Pens
Pen and Ink Watercolor painting
Completely lightfast and versatile

I use these like a watercolor paint that is waterproof, so they are really nice for layering colors without disturbing the under layers. You can use them to draw with via dip pen, however they do dry quickly so they can clog your pen's nib. Therefore I prefer using them with a detail paint brush and they dilute well with water for a wide range of softer colors. The colors are amazingly vibrant, so I was genuinely surprised that after a FULL YEAR of lightfast testing each color in a window NONE OF THE COLORS FADED AT ALL. None. These held up better than any of my other professional paints, and blew watercolors out of the water for bright vibrant stable lightfast color. (I've posted various reviews and color charts online if you image search for "Bombay India Ink Lightfast".) My only negative comment is that several of the brown colors such as sepia and yellow ochre have pigment separation that constantly require you to stir the bottle.

Great, vibrant colors, but stay away from the browns!
By WI Bookworm

I've been using these inks with my dip pens as well as a substitute for watercolors, and I couldn't be happier! The colors are so vibrant, and the coverage very smooth and even. I also love the satin finish once they dry.A few cons:1) Stay away from the browns, and Yellow Ochre. (They're the reason I took one star away.) I've found that they don't give that nice, even coverage like the other colors (even after a solid stir), and they lack the satin finish I love so much. If you absolutely must get a brown, get the one labeled "Brown" (Sepia, Terra Cotta, and VanDyke are the worst culprits.)2) Being pigment-based, they tend to settle quickly, so you'll need to give them a good stir before using them. If you do buy the browns, some will need to be shaken frequently, sometimes while you're painting, which can get in the way of work flow.3) Despite being advertised as permanent, these don't work with Copic Markers. I was excited to try these out for colored line art, so I drew up a few tests and allowed them to dry for 24 hours. They worked perfectly against watercolors, but the alcohol markers were too much for them.Other notes:1) The white is very opaque, and gives great coverage over other colors and inks, even when diluted. (See photo below for pen tests.)2) The black has a very matte finish compared to other India inks I have used.Overall: A great purchase! You won't be disappointed :)

India ink for black backgrounds

I use India ink to make black backgrounds. This works great and doesn't cause the paper to curl.
