Dorland's Wax Medium is a non-yellowing wax and resin mixture that strengthens oil paint film against shrinkage and cracking while sealing out dirt, air, and moisture.
Dorland's improves the luminosity and clarity of colors. It adds translucency to oil paints, making them more brilliant.
It can also be used as a final coat on dry paintings, metal sculpture, wood carvings, and antiques. Since it is made with pure beeswax, it is perhaps the most authentic final treatment for fine wooden furniture and woodwork, both antique and modern,
Mix directly with the color before applying it to the painting. No heating is required. It can be buffed to a gloss finish, and thins with turpentine or mineral spirits.

Comments about Jacquard Dorland's Wax Medium:
This wax medium will matte down your oil a bit. It has a slightly grainy feel, which aids in matting. It is lighter than a lot of Wax mediums. Moves more easily.

I use it with oil paint and finishing the sides of birch wood panels
from Republic of Panama
Dorlands cold wax medium is perfect for mixing with oil paint. I use around 30-40% cold wax to the paint, and it creates a smooth buttery consistently.
Great deal and wonderful product, keeps pages from sticking in my art journal.

This is the best cold wax medium in the market and this price is very fair.
Great for protecting art journal pages
from Miami, FL
I use Dorlands Wax to protect my art Journal pages. The many paints and products that I use on the pages can stick to other pages and when separated cause material to be removed. I put a very thin layer of Dorlands on each page and it keeps them from sticking. Also gives the page a nice sheen without being sticky or greasy. A little goes a long way so you get your money's worth.

Great for final finish on egg tempera paintings
By Happy Painter
from Dothan, AL
I purchased Dorland's Wax medium to use as a protective finish on my egg tempera paintings. Egg tempera paintings polymerize over time to a hard finish on their own and I love the natural, soft glow they have. However, they can be quite delicate until that natural curing process occurs. I was looking for a protective finish that would allow me to show my paintings sooner without fear of damage and not detract from or change the characteristic look of an egg tempera painting. It took a few tries before I mastered the technique, but once I got the hang of it I have been happy with the results. At first the finish looked a little lumpy in spots. I believe this was due to my unpracticed technique and not a fault of the product. I found that after letting the initial coat dry, I then warm the surface with a hair dryer while at the same time I use a paper towel to remove excess lumps and smooth out the finish. After this step the wax coat is almost imperceptible and is exactly what I was looking for. I have applied Dorland's wax to egg tempera paintings done on wood panel as well as paper(that are then mounted onto a panel). It seems to harden more quickly on the works done on paper. Years ago I bought Gamblin's cold wax paste out of curiosity as I had been painting with encaustics and was exploring the idea of using wax without heat. The Dorland's Wax Medium does not have as strong of an odor as the Gamblin product. Dorland's has a very faint smell, but it did not bother me and I am usually very sensitive to odors and chemical fumes.

I mix with sand and linseed oil for an encaustic affect.
Great paint extender, and texturizer
from Trumansburg, NY
I mix this with my oil paint for a lovely fluffy texture that dries quickly with a very matt finish. If I want to make it more glossy, I use a Galkyd light glaze on top.

Silky smooth cold wax
from Omaha NE
I ve just begum creating with cold wax and oil, and have tested two cold wax products. I like Dorlands' silky smooth texture. It's creamy. When mixed with oils and applied in think coats, it creates a translucent shimmer. Looking forward to creating more with this lovely medium.
