These professional-quality, water-soluble pencils offer the artist the freedom to switch from drawing to painting in an instant, with no change in tools. Use them to shade on dry paper, then quickly wash over with brush and water to get a blending effect.

Use wetted paper for intensified colors with softened edges, or try wetting the pencil first for rich, textured lines. Each pencil is pre-sharpened and has a 3.4 mm diameter color strip.

Hardwood Box Set of 72 — This set of 72 pencils comes in a hardwood case with brass hardware.

Watercolor Pencil Sets — Pencils are packaged in hinge-lid, tin boxes.

Good portable sketching medium

How I use them: for sketching, and mixed media drawing. With a small set of pencils, a water brush and a pocket sketchbook, you can paint anywhere.

What I like: Everything! Easy to use, good pigment intensity, colors dissolve well, pencils take up very small space when travelling, they sharpen well, marks look good dry or wet, color is concentrated enough that the pencils last quite a while. The price is fair, and even with a small set, the colors mix well enough to create plenty of variation.

What I don't like: I can't think of any negatives for the way I use them, which is for small-format sketches. But if you are concerned about lightfastness, be aware that some colors may not be permanent. For my own style, I am more fond of Derwent's other watersoluble drawing products, Aquatone and InkTense, because they don't need sharpening and seem to have greater color intesity. But the pencils are also excellent in their own way. It all depends on how you work. If you want to do fine details, pencils are perfect. If you like to work big and splashy, they may be too fussy for you.

Bottom line: Another fine product from Derwent. The pencils are a very worthwhile tool for any watermedia artist

I use the water color pencils in combination with regular water colors and this works so well for me. I've had other wc pencils but none can compare with the Derwent.

I think the shipping costs were excessive, the box 20 times the size of the item and not necessary. The related costs borne by the consumer.
I will consider other art shops where the shipping seems more appropriate.

These pencils are great for traveling

I like to use these pencils when I travel or in the studio for
studies because the parafernalia is minimal. Try a white nylon
brush with a water reservoir handle to keep it really simple.
They can produce nice finished work in combination with washes
for sky and large ares of ground. The texture that the drawing can produce, encourages the viewer to see detail that is only
suggested.
