Welcome to dickblick
Made in England, these high-quality pencils were designed specifically for the professional artist and designer. If you like the texture and blendability of Derwent Artists Pencils, but prefer a crisper, more precise drawing style, Derwent Studio Colored Pencils are for you!
All 72 pencils in the range are highly pigmented for maximum color purity. They share the same color core as Derwent Artists Colored Pencils, but have a slim, hexagonal barrel that's easy to grip. The 3.4 mm core sharpens to a fine point, producing a narrow color strip that's particularly well suited to detailed illustration work, such as botanical studies, architectural drawing, and graphic design.
Each hexagonal wooden pencil is strikingly finished in matte black with a color-coded end. Pencils are pre-sharpened. Studio sets are packaged in a handy hinge-lid tin box.

Another Winner from Blick
By Carla J
from Glenwood Springs, CO
I've used a variety of Blick products, so I knew it was the go-to source for a very special birthday present. The gift recipient is an outstanding artist and her choices of tools, paint, ink, pencil and medium are always precise. Her response to the Derwent Studio Metallic Pencils, Set of 12 was, as she says in England, over the moon! The construction of the pencils, the stunning colors and the striking tin carrying case were perfect. Plus, I get credit for my great taste!

Derwent Studio Colored Pencils for the Artist in you
from Feeding Hills, MA
The colors really stand out and let you use your artistic style. They are well made and the shape of the pencil shank makes for excellent handling.
Best fine art pencils I've ever used. Just fabulous.
from Palm Desert, Ca. and Whidbey Island Wa.
I use the pencils for original art, collage, and pencil books. The pencils are a little waxy so with varying the pressure you can get very soft or very strong colors. They don't seem to require sharpening as often. The pencil itself is larger in diameter than a standard #2 and so requires an adjustable sharpener. I purchased the most expensive set that comes in a wooden box. I thought it was quite pricey. Also, I wish the box had a handle on it for carrying.

Not my type
By Soft Core
from Conway, SC
I bought a few of these pencils as a test. In my hands the pencils did not color well at all. To me the lead of these pencils are made of crushed bricks with some dye added. I like a much softer core. So, hard core lovers this is your pencil. However the Bronze pencils was fairly decent.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
For adding soft color to you collection
from Concord, CA
I like this pencil colours you can built so many layers super subtle.I noticed when I'm using a blender in liquid form it changed slightly the colour.
from LA CA
I am not an artist, however, this is a high quality artist pencil for detail work. It is oil based but a very hard lead so it doesn't blend or burnish well. The colors are beautiful. But its not for the beginner.

realistic colors from nature
By hope this helps
These pencils are not as soft as Faber Castell polychromos or Pablo but their colors are softer in appearance. COlors from Faber castell polychromos are more intense and vibrant. When drawing nature the Derwent colors are more realistic. For nature drawing and realistic coloring these will have a nicer and softer effect than the faber castell. THere are some colors that do not distribute color well on the paper but most transfer color very nicely.

Too soft and crumbly!
By SL Brown
from Land of Enchantment
I only bought black to try while sampling brands. With art supplies, it's always a matter of whether or not they do what one needs them to do. Perhaps these Are just right for some, but they arenot for me. I could not get a crisp line. The pigment load was light. The 'lead' crumbled with far less pressure than I would typically use.
Merchant response: We apologize for the issues you had with these pencils. It sounds like the pencil cores may have been damaged in shipping, because these are Derwent's firmer colored pencils, and the cores should not "crumble" as you describe.
