Welcome to dickblick
Made in England, these high-quality pencils were designed specifically for the professional artist and designer. If you like the texture and blendability of Derwent Artists Pencils, but prefer a crisper, more precise drawing style, Derwent Studio Colored Pencils are for you!
All 72 pencils in the range are highly pigmented for maximum color purity. They share the same color core as Derwent Artists Colored Pencils, but have a slim, hexagonal barrel that's easy to grip. The 3.4 mm core sharpens to a fine point, producing a narrow color strip that's particularly well suited to detailed illustration work, such as botanical studies, architectural drawing, and graphic design.
Each hexagonal wooden pencil is strikingly finished in matte black with a color-coded end. Pencils are pre-sharpened. Studio sets are packaged in a handy hinge-lid tin box.

Not my type
By Soft Core
from Conway, SC
Comments about Derwent Studio Colored Pencil Wooden Box Set:
I bought a few of these pencils as a test. In my hands the pencils did not color well at all. To me the lead of these pencils are made of crushed bricks with some dye added. I like a much softer core. So, hard core lovers this is your pencil. However the Bronze pencils was fairly decent.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

For adding soft color to you collection
from Concord, CA
I like this pencil colours you can built so many layers super subtle.I noticed when I'm using a blender in liquid form it changed slightly the colour.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
from LA CA
I am not an artist, however, this is a high quality artist pencil for detail work. It is oil based but a very hard lead so it doesn't blend or burnish well. The colors are beautiful. But its not for the beginner.

realistic colors from nature
By hope this helps
These pencils are not as soft as Faber Castell polychromos or Pablo but their colors are softer in appearance. COlors from Faber castell polychromos are more intense and vibrant. When drawing nature the Derwent colors are more realistic. For nature drawing and realistic coloring these will have a nicer and softer effect than the faber castell. THere are some colors that do not distribute color well on the paper but most transfer color very nicely.

Too soft and crumbly!
By SL Brown
from Land of Enchantment
I only bought black to try while sampling brands. With art supplies, it's always a matter of whether or not they do what one needs them to do. Perhaps these Are just right for some, but they arenot for me. I could not get a crisp line. The pigment load was light. The 'lead' crumbled with far less pressure than I would typically use.
Merchant response: We apologize for the issues you had with these pencils. It sounds like the pencil cores may have been damaged in shipping, because these are Derwent's firmer colored pencils, and the cores should not "crumble" as you describe. Our Customer Care Agents will be happy to take care of this for you. Just give us a call at 1-800-723-2787.

Not as good as Polychromos
from Sacramento, CA
Bought a few of these to supplement my Polychromos set. I also have some Derwent Colorsoft and Inktense pencils so I thought these would be comparable. Not so - very hard, color very faint, even with pressure doesn't lay down very good color. They seem more like dime store quality although I paid a premium price. I do like Dick Blick and will continue to order my supplies through this company; however, won't be buying Derwent Studio pencils again.
Merchant response: We're sorry to hear that the Derwent Studio Colored Pencils were not as you expected. These pencils are indeed harder, and are intended to be used for detail. They can be sharpened to a fine point and make very crisp lines, which makes them a useful accompaniment to very soft pencils like the Coloursoft. Derwent colored pencils
from Meriden, CT
Derwent colored pencils are very easy to blend and have a smooth appearance when used in adult coloring books. I also love the fact that they are numbered so that I can remember where they are stored in the travel case.
from New Mexico
I got the white because the other brands are not enough pigment so they do not cover well. These fit the bill work great!! Although non bring back all the white of the paper so still have to watch your drawing. Anyone needing a white that work try these they will help!!

Adult Coloring at its Best
from Chester NY
The Derwent Studio set is better than advertised. It is hexagon shape, which makes it easier to us. The color variety is good.
