I am a nature artist and I do a lot of fine detail in my work. I have tried other pastel pencils and the Derwent brand is now the only one I will use. The colors are lovely and the softness and texture match my stick pastels perfectly. My only wish is that Derwent would create an electric sharpener for them so that I didnt have to sit around whittling the pencil tips with a pocket knife.

Very happy with the Derwent pastel pencils. They allow me to add the details when I need them, and are portable enough to go anywhere to get things started in the field. They blend well, and are soft enough to cover when needed.
The only thing I dislike is trying to sharpen them and keep the point in the pencil.

I utilize these pencils just as I would any other colored pencil product and couldn't be thankful enough to find them. They have a very fine pastel dust that infiltrates the smallest of peaks within my favorite drawing surface, making them superb for skin tones and slight variations in color.

Since Derwent has reformulated these pencils, they work FLAWLESSLY! I had previously purchased some and ended up returning them because I was disappointed with the fact that I couldn't sharpen them without them breaking and that they scratched the paper frequently. I was sad to let them go because I loved the color selection.

I decided to give Derwent another shot after I heard that they reformulated these bad boys and boy am I glad I did! The color goes down smoothly, does not scratch the paper, and I can even sharpen them without a problem using a standard hand sharpener (something I could not do before)!

Needless to say, I will be using these pastels for a long time.

I love these pencils! They have a wonderful, smokey range that make for some interesting values and tones in a piece. They combine well with the others I use (Stabilo-CarbOthello, Faber-Castell, and Prismacolor Nupastel). I definitely recommend them not just as a great pencil to work with but for the added values they have to offer. They are not average width though so I would grab a sharpener that can fit thicker pencils.

I was disappointed that Derwent discontinued several of my favorite colors when they reformulated their line. However, I really love many of their new colors and the "feel" of the pencils is an improvement over the old line. Derwent pastel pencils are very easy to sharpen with a sharp utility knife. I highly recommend this brand for using in conjunction with soft pastels.

The best pastel pencils are no longer available to buy individually -- Conte a Paris (they are the best). So I thought I'd try Derwent. I work on velour paper and the scratched the paper, went on unevenly, had poor coverage and were overall poor quality.

very happy- great pastel pencils! very comparable to the stabilo pastel pencils i have... my understanding is that derwent made some much needed changes to this line of pencils-so i am assuming the ones i purchased were of the new stock and the previous negative comments from others may be from the purchase of 'new/old stock'?
