Welcome to dickblick
Derwent Inktense Pencils are as versatile as watercolor pencils, but with a firmer texture that allows them to perform with the brilliant intensity of traditional pen-and-ink. These pencils are available in strong, vibrant colors which work beautifully on their own or can be mixed together to create rich, subtle tones. The pure, clean colors are perfect for bold expressive drawings, including fashion illustration, landscapes, greeting cards, and more.
Inktense pencils can be used dry for rich, intense color or washed out with a little water to create a vivid translucent effect. Once dry, the color is permanent and can be worked over with other media. Pencils are pre-sharpened.

Great for Quilting!

Comments about Derwent Inktense Pencils:
There is a significant difference between Derwent's Inktense and watercolor pencils. When you add water, Inktense produces ink not watercolor paint. Once this has dried, the ink is waterproof rather than remaining water-soluble with watercolor. This means you can additional layers to your painting without disturbing what you've already done. As I mostly use acrylics, and thus am accustomed to being able to add to a painting without reactivating what's underneath, I do like this. I've found with watercolor pencils I sometimes end up muddying the colors by overworking, but with Inktense once it's dry, it's dry. That said, it's important to note that if you don't 'activate' all the Inktense pencil the first time you apply water, you may have some pencil left that will dissolve the next time you apply water. It depends on how heavily you applied the pencil and how much water you use.As with all water-soluble pencils, you can put a wet brush onto an Inktense pencil or stick to pick up some ink and then brush this onto paper.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

72 count Intense
I am very pleased with the product. I have been using the pencils on fabric art and the colors are great. I will be buying a few of the intense blocks.
Bought only one of these in Shiraz to use for quick monochrome sketches and I love it. The intensity of the "ink" was impressive. Perfect for using a waterbrush with on the go.

Derwent Inktense Ink Pencils

Very nice colors on fabric. More intense on fabric than crayons. And the pencil can color smaller areas than a crayon. I used aloe gel (clear, no lidocane, color, etc) to set the color instead of water, which wicked outside the design area too much. That worked great. Textile fabric medium was not available locally that I found, so aloe gel was perfect. The gel was easy to control and paint in even tiny areas with a small brush. I let the gel dry and rinsed in water. No bleeding or wicking.

just started using and wish I'd bought a bigger set. Love the pigment color you get when using these pencils and blocks.
Beautiful bold colors
I use them to color/ paint. The color is intense and bold, but blends beautifully.
Smooth color, intensifies with water.

Good quality color, glides on nicely, I can correct errors with water before color sets. Downside: 15 of 72 are really dark colors, all nearly black, I'd prefer more brights.
A must have for colored pencil artists

The pigment is intense in these pencils. Not only can you use them like regular colored pencils but add water to the pigment for watercolor pencils. When dry, the color is permanent. Purchase a set, experiment--I now you will love them.
Easy To Add Color to Fabric and Mixed-Media Projects

I use these to add a shade of color or definition to my wall quilts and mixed media projects. These water-soluable pencils are easy to use and are permanent once dried and heat set. Dick Blick has these pencils in amazingly priced collections as well as sold individually. Their prompt delivery and fantastic prices make this selection a "given".
