Responding to popular demand, Derwent expanded its initial range of six earthy colors, first introduced in 1986, into a glorious palette of 24 subtle shades. These include soft greens, blues, grays, and creams plus a wider choice of traditional sepia tones, making them ideal for a wide range of subjects.

Derwent Drawing Pencils are 8 mm in diameter with soft, thick, round leads that have a creamy consistency, making it easy to apply and produce a rich, velvety finish on the paper. The soft, extra wide 5mm strip is ideal for blending and encourages loose, expressive drawings with subtle tonal transitions. Colors can be quickly laid down in wide to thin applications. Pencils are pre-sharpened.

These pencils bring color to life — from sweeping landscapes and seascapes to detailed, vibrant wildlife drawings, nature studies, and portraiture.

I bought a couple of Ivory Black to replace my old Rexel Cumberland-Derwent pencils, and a set of 24 colour pencils. I have to echo the positive feedback. The coloured pencils are amazing for delicate and sensual lines, thick and creamy, yet delicate. The colours are rich, subtle and blend beautifully. I will not go without these again!

The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that I notice the black is not as creamy as it used to be - it's more like a charcoal pencil. This is a disappointment, but otherwise these are the best pencils I have ever worked with. The Ink Blue, Solway Blue and grey range are especially gorgeous.

You can't draw flowers and butterflies with these pencils! But you can use this consciously limited color range of earthy hues for very delicate portraits and landscapes. Thick and soft and pleasant although not as smooth as Faber-Castell Polychromos.

These pencils immediately live up to all the positive reviews. They have many subtle shades and are great for any natural subjects. My preferred subjects are almost any animal. The quality is excellent but I don't have a lot experience with other pencils to compare these to. Still a great choice. I'm very happy with these pencils.
