Welcome to dickblick
Available in an astounding range of more than 235 colors, Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors are made by hand in Seattle, Washington. This superior-quality watercolor line includes historical hues, amazing earths, and some of the brightest and boldest quinacridones ever formulated.
More highly pigmented and finely ground than any watercolors on the market, Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors also boast superior lightfastness, with 235 of the colors rated LR I or II. They have excellent brushing properties, resulting in clear, clean washes even when colors are layered.
Daniel Smith's PrimaTek Watercolors let you flood your work with antiquity's most precious hues, such as Hematite, Tiger's Eye, Rhodonite, and Lapis Lazuli — gemstones and minerals that have captured artists' imaginations for hundreds if not thousands of years. These colors are made with authentic mineral pigments. Their effects are amazing and diverse, from warm and subtle to sparkling and vibrant.
The Extra Fine Luminescent Watercolors employ miniscule particles of titanium-coated mica to achieve their dazzling properties. Use them alone or mix them with standard colors for striking effects. Iridescent/Pearlescent colors appear almost colorless straight from the tube, but when applied over a dark ground they create a fascinating sense of depth, along with intense color and sheen. Interference colors take on different hues depending on how the light is striking them from various points of view. For example, Interference Green looks like a shimmering, pearly green from one angle, but from another refracts a reddish hue. Duochrome colors bounce between two distinct colors depending on the reflective light — pure visual excitement!

I will probably buy this watercolor again

Comments about Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors:
Since I am a novice at painting watercolors, I haven't tried a lot of other brands. This paint is transparent and very intense. Colors are saturated. This definitely is superior to other lesser paints I have.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have slowly switched to 100% Daniel Smith watercolors for a couple of reasons: 1) the quality is consistent; and 2) they are American-made--not that you folks in France and the UK don't make good stuff too, but hey . . . I'm an American. Now I've discovered these DS Primatek colors, and I'm addicted to them. They granulate like nothing else on the market, and the colors are subdued, which makes them ideal for my landscapes and seascapes; in fact, they make painting a mountain scene, a beach scene, or a desert scene almost a no-brainer. Indeed, I find myself doing entire pictures in Primatek, except for the sky, and sometimes even that!Yes, they are a bit more expensive than most other paints, but that is no surprise--they are made of rare natural minerals. When I can get a paint that almost makes a painting paint itself, you can bet I'll use it.Hello, Daniel Smith. Are you listening? Bring us a Primatek in a nice natural-looking yellow, perhaps just a tiny bit more yellow than ochre. Ok?

Bought this on a recommendation as an intro to these paints. I have tried many and my favorite is Rembrandt. I find DS to be equal to Rembrandt. Is it better? Probably not, but it is a quality paint so its hard to go wrong. I might buy specific colors of this brand, but won't use it exclusively.
What can I say?

What can I say about DS watercolors that has not already been said? They are my #1 choice and one of the top 5 WC's paint available today.

Excellent watercolor. If you don't like mixing colors, Daniel Smith is the paint for you. They have so many beautiful colors to choose from.
Color My World!
I feel like an artist every time I put color to paper. When it is wet on wet, Daniel Smith's color flow like magic, and I get to take credit for it. The colors mix and blend and shine and spread and wash and variegate and brighten my day. All the watercolor techniques, from washes to texture, create stunning effects. I especially like the value and intensity of DS paints. My special find was "Cascade Green." My evergreen trees have a 5th dimension. And, you must try all the Quinacridone colors. You don't need to pronounce it, just paint with it. Flowers have never had it so good.
