Welcome to dickblick
Available in an astounding range of more than 235 colors, Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors are made by hand in Seattle, Washington. This superior-quality watercolor line includes historical hues, amazing earths, and some of the brightest and boldest quinacridones ever formulated.
More highly pigmented and finely ground than any watercolors on the market, Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors also boast superior lightfastness, with 235 of the colors rated LR I or II. They have excellent brushing properties, resulting in clear, clean washes even when colors are layered.
Daniel Smith's PrimaTek Watercolors let you flood your work with antiquity's most precious hues, such as Hematite, Tiger's Eye, Rhodonite, and Lapis Lazuli — gemstones and minerals that have captured artists' imaginations for hundreds if not thousands of years. These colors are made with authentic mineral pigments. Their effects are amazing and diverse, from warm and subtle to sparkling and vibrant.
The Extra Fine Luminescent Watercolors employ miniscule particles of titanium-coated mica to achieve their dazzling properties. Use them alone or mix them with standard colors for striking effects. Iridescent/Pearlescent colors appear almost colorless straight from the tube, but when applied over a dark ground they create a fascinating sense of depth, along with intense color and sheen. Interference colors take on different hues depending on how the light is striking them from various points of view. For example, Interference Green looks like a shimmering, pearly green from one angle, but from another refracts a reddish hue. Duochrome colors bounce between two distinct colors depending on the reflective light — pure visual excitement!

Comments about Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors:
Though these paints can seem pricey to those not used to professional grade paints they are amazing. I put them into half pans and the reactivation is great. My colors have been coming out more vividly and have had 0 problems so far.

Gorgeous paint, impressive selection
I've been wanting to try Daniel Smith watercolors for a long time and I wish I hadn't waited! DS Primateks and other colors are like no one else's, and Blick sells them at a reasonable price. These are a must try for the watercolorist. If you want to sample the colors first, DS sells (and sometimes offers free with purchase) sets of dotted sample sheets. My favorites so far are Shadow Violet, Hematite Burnt Scarlet, Piemontite Genuine, and Undersea Green. Fantastic paints!
The best tube watercolor available
By Courtney Snowstorm

I've worked with many tube watercolor paints and this is absolutely the most professional looking paint without costing an arm and a leg. The saturation of the colors stay so pure even diluted down to nearly just water. It makes such a huge difference to use good quality paints for your end product. #sweepstakes
Quality and choice!
Excellent pigments. I use them dry and I can get nice rich tones with out scrubbing forever. I am trying more of the mineral offerings. So fun! Different tones and textures possible with those.
My favorite brand of watercolors
from castle rock, wa
I use this watercolors almost exclusively in my commissions and finished works. I'm lucky enough to have quite a collection of other brands but these are by far my favorite.
Vibrant color and smooth cover.

I love this color
from Carlsbad, NM
I love watercolor and bright colors, so when I saw this pink I had to try it. The lightfast rating is high. Can't wait to paint with it.
Love their color choices. Yes I would buy them again.

Love their colors. Love the transparency of some and the beautiful tones. I cannot get these colors from other watercolors. Especially love the cobalt turquoise and quin Coral.
Overall stellar, with a few misses.

I've purchased many tubes of Daniel Smith watercolors, and generally I'm very happy with them. Some of my absolute favorites are Sodalite, Green Apatite, Phthalo Turquoise, Quinacridone Rose/Purple/Violet.Some are disappointingly similar to each other (Moonglow and Shadow Violet for example), and some are just disappointing (Mayan Blue). The dot sheet is super-useful for deciding which tubes you may want to purchase before taking the pricey-plunge. It'd be nice if all colors were available in the 5ml size; there are some colors I'd try for sure if I didn't have to commit to 15ml. For the more common/less gimmicky colors, I often opt for Winsor & Newton professional as I'm equally happy with them and able to get them a little cheaper.
