I used Winsor and Newton Artist Acrylics and when I decided to make the switch to oils I searched for a relatively lowly-priced candidate. These Daler-Rowney paints are wonderful for the price but you definitely get what you pay for; the paints are extremely low in pigmentation. I am not unhappy with the product because they certainly helped me adjust to using oils, especially as a student.

The paint itself is good, color and texture is fine, but the caps are awful! Within a week of purchase, two caps broke, and eventually within 6 months all (6) broke. Now I have all these in ziploc bags and it drives me crazy. I cannot recommend these paints at all. Painting is hard enough, you shouldn't have to fight with your paint tubes.

I use these paints for a lot of washes and large areas. They were also the first oil paints I bought and I think they are excellent paints to with which to begin learning to paint. The tubes are large and the colors don't turn muddy or clump when mixing, blending. Some of the caps did crack and become unusable but I tied the tube tops up with a bit of wax paper, the wrapped the tip with freezer bags and rubber banded them. They has worked well, nothing has dried out. These paints are a little thin but the color holds well and though they are thin they aren't transparent necessarily. I have been painting for a while now and continue to use these oils and have replaced the tubes I've completely used with new tubes of the same brand.

I'm an amateur oil painter and have used many different brands of paint. This brand has all the colors I need, mixes well, but can also be used right from the tube on a dry brush. Additionally, it meets all safety standards.
