Welcome to dickblick
These brushes contain excellent hair from the Ussuri River region of Siberia. Russian Red Sable Brushes are expertly shaped for spring, resiliency, color-carrying capacity, and the ability to hold a sharp edge or point. Color can be spread thinly and evenly for subtle shades of color, structuring, or layering.
They are excellent for precise, controlled brush strokes, detail work, and fine blending. Their seamless, nickel-plated brass ferrules are rust-resistant and long-lasting.

Comments about Da Vinci Brushes Da Vinci Russian Red Sable Brushes:
I like these brushes, they are softer than brushes made of other hairs and materials. This gives me more control when adding finer detail to my paintings. I only paint in oils.

Very smooth application of oil paint on canvas. No streaks as you apply oil. Crisp lines. Brushes snap back into shape and does not feather.

Loved the brushes.

I live in a rural area and it is good to be able to order brushes and paints. It saves many trips to the nearest town.

Since I began oil painting seven years ago I've tried every kind of brush, starting with inexpensive brands and noticing how quickly I used up a brush. Then I decided I'd have one really good brush and bought a Da Vinci Russian red sable. Well, you know what it's like to fall in love. I now paint only with this brush and have several of each size -- they are SO worth the investment because they paint smoothly, are easy to clean, and last much, much longer than inexpensive brushes.

I like Da Vinci Red sables for oil painting. They hold their point well and they have a nice spring. Escoda brushes are also nice, and WN Series 7's are great brushes too, but they're pricy.

Bristles Falling out
from Perth, Australia
Comments about Da Vinci Russian Red Sable Filbert Series 1824:
I bought two brushes from this range, a filbert and a flat. The flat is great, although not as dense in bristles as other sables I have. The filbert has endlessly falling out bristles, every time I make a stroke a bristle or two falls out. I've tried clamping the ferrule tighter with pliers, to no avail. the quality and spring of the bristle is fine, but I just cant stand the continual fall out of bristles.

These brushes are extremely easy to work with. The hair is solid and has very nice spring or snap. It seems to me that the hairs are cut very evenly so while using the brush its much easier to control. The hairs are so close to how my other "kolinsky" brushes feel it's hard to tell the difference. Usually red sable brushes are a little more flexible or dare I say thin that they have little to no spring. The ferrels are like many other brushes I have but the handles are smooth and the gray paint used on them is matte so in my opinion they are easier to grip. Sometimes handles can be too glossy and it makes them a bit slippery. I really enjoy these brushes and I thank Da Vinci for make them.
