Comments about Da Vinci Russian Blue Squirrel Quill Series 418:
These brushes are amazing. I use them for watercolor, but they would also work great for gouache, ink, etc. The brush is very well made, the handle has a gorgeous finish on it, and the casing around the hair is one piece, making the brush very durable. It holds a tremendous amount of water for its size (mine is size two) and the bristles do not stain. The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the wire securing the casing sticks out just a bit so when I go to wipe off excess water the wire end gets caught on the towel. This doesn't effect the brush performance, just something I noticed. Overall, a very nice high quality brush. Worth the money!

I was disappointed with this brush.
Comments about Da Vinci Russian Blue Squirrel Round Series 5590:
As an returning watercolor painter I find this brush comparable to local craft store products. The bristles don't hold much water and lose their stroke (if that makes sense). I would not buy this brand again.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for your review. It sounds as if you may be looking for a brush with more snap than a squirrel brush can have — perhaps a sable or synthetic? Comments about Da Vinci Russian Blue Squirrel Mottler Series 510:
The Da Vinci Russian Blue Squirrel Mottler is, without a doubt, the BEST wash brush I have ever used. I use it for washes and glazing and it never fails to give a smooth, even flow of color onto the paper. I am a watercolorist so it is imperative to have very perfect glazes the first time and this brush never fails me. The bristles are soft and perfectly aligned holding a great deal of water and it has a knife edge, straight as an arrow.I can't think of anything wrong about this brush. It really is perfect.
The softness is just right.

I've painted in watercolors for 10yrs., and plein air for about 5. It takes some time to find a favorite brush, but I think I have it now with this DaVinci squirrel. The brushes have fine, thin hairs that come to a nice point. They have more water holding capacity than the sables I've used, and this suits my painting style. My end result looks fresh and not over-worked.
Best brush ever!
