Comments about Da Vinci Paints Da Vinci Professional Gouache:
I purchased four tubes of different colors to test this brand of gouache. I had high expectations because this paint is manufactured by Da Vinci and, of course, because of the generous 37 ml tube size. Alas, both pigment load and working properties of the paint were disappointing. The paint is not as opaque as I would like and too viscous, almost gummy, that I had to use too much water as I would have wanted to make the paint workable.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I've only been using Gouache for a short time and was given a set of Name Brand gouache, but certain colors were not available; so I started checking out other less known brands and found that the DaVinci had some colors I was looking for and was more generous with the amounts for the money. It seems to work just as well! Not sure if the colors are permanent, but I'm just using to practice painting or doing studies before doing a major work.

Da Vinci is a good brand anyway, and the price of their gouache is convincing. I have used their gouache on several watercolors and it is perfect for hiding mistakes in transparent watercolor slops or overruns. Just another tool in my toolbox to keep the quality of my paintings high.

Reliable Velvet Mix!
By Red Feather

I use this product to mix a calligrapher's ink formula for lettering. I mix the richness of the black gouache to enhance and create a rich velvety black ink, then a few drops of gum arabic to aid in the flow of the ink from the quills that I use.

Very Good inexpensive white
Persons who use a lot of white will find this affordable and good quality. Plus it is named after a great guy, leonardo Da Vinci!

The longest lasting Gouache available
Have had tubes of this gouache for years, does not dry out in the tubes like other major brands, Love the size and price compared to other brands, have never had any problems with this product, good color range.

I've tested only a few colors: titanium white, burnt umber, burnt sienna, and orange. Compared to Winsor Newton gouache, which I'm used to, the Da Vinci feels gummier out of the tube. Undiluted, the orange and burnt umber dried with shiny areas, and when diluted enough to cut the shine, they became less opaque and liable to show brush strokes. However, I liked that the Da Vinci's were single pigments. So I would recommend this, with some caveats, as a good budget paint.
