Finally reviewing my brushes after using them for awhile, since durability is key for such expensive items. I bought (invested in) the largest filbert on sale in 2011, and it has been a treasure, handless beautifully, keeps it shape, great brush. Recent reviews are very negative, so Da Vinci must have changed their manufacture.

I love DaVinci Brushes. I have several of the Maestro2 brushes and I love them. I find them to hold their shape very well even after they are cleaned up. Sometimes the bristles will flair out of shape after the brush dries but once I get them wet again and loaded up with paint they hold their shape perfectly. Which is standard with good brushes. I bought a 2" bristle mottler that the bristles fell out of the furrel after a year, however after contacting DaVinci about said brush they sent me a new one. Great customer service!

The filbert I bought became unusable right after the first time I painted with it -- it fanned out and never regained its shape, the bristles are week with no spring. It was very disappointing, particularly because the product is made by the same company that makes beautiful kolinski brushes. I am wondering if the brush I bought was made elsewhere...

I can not express strongly enough how much I hate these brushes. They are the worst bristle brushes I have. Weak, Thin, No shape,Wild Hairs. For Da Vinci to market these brushes as professional quality is to propagate a world full of lies.

I'm wondering if the other reviewers are using the same brushes. The problem with the Da Vinci Maestro 2 brush is that it doesn't hold its shape. The bristles act like they are unrelated and want to escape from each other. Its like painting with a bottle brush. I am using them with acrylic paint. Also, the bristles are not very stiff for hog hair.

My favorite brushes are the Connoisseur brand (which Blick doesn't carry). Those brushes hold their shape and the bristles play nicely together.

The thing that is great about DaVinci Maestro 2 brushes is that they're cheap, so I won't feel bad about cutting the bristles down for use with pastels.

I will not be buying any more of them.

To start off, I am by no means a professional artist (i'm only 14 years old), so I am not one to judge by "professional standards". I've only just begun taking up oil painting starting a few weeks ago and I bought three of these brushes to start off. The reviews had me convinced that these were good quality brushes.

Okay, I've used them a few times. Again, I don't know what to expect from a brush since I've not much experience with them, but these brushes are what I would rank higher than the brushes in my art class. But I wasn't astounded with it. I also have one complaint: the brushes did not hold their shape very well, and I would say that I do not use my brushes that vigorously. By the second use, some of the hairs had started to swerve away from the rest of the hairs. I used some brush shaper after cleaning them too, and they still did not maintain their shape. The brushes also stain, but I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Despite this, I think that I may purchase some more of these brushes

I use these brushes for portrait and flowers painting. They provide precise details, hold the paint nicely, and the best feature is that they hold their shape after cleaning them

I've always been a fan of da Vinci Brushes because of their superb quality and the variety of brushes they make. I use these brushes in the studio and they perform as one would expect. Compared to other brands, these will shed the least. When washed before using the first time, you will remove a few hairs probably 3-4 and it will take you a long time to see another hair on your canvas. Mainly because the way da Vinci makes their brushes. It's not glued to the ferrule. The hairs extend to the base of the ferrule connecting to the brush in an interlocked position. They end up using more bristles hidden inside the ferrule and the base which I think why they cost so much.

da Vinci brushes never failed me. I wish they were a little bit cheaper in price. But I can understand why they cost this much. Quality here outweighs economy.

I bought two of the mottler brushes and they work well, though at first they tend to shed a small amount- this is temporary and can be avoided by thoroughly (though gently) washing or rinsing the brushes prior to use.
