Da Vinci's highest grade Kolinsky red sable brushes are produced with select winter hair from the Tobol River regions in Eastern Siberia. Because of the extreme cold in this region, the tail hair of the male has the longest and strongest hairs, the most select materials available for long liner brushes. Brush hairs are glued into the ferrule by a dosing machine. Then the ferrule is filled with a modern component-glue. After the drying and curing process, all the hairs are firmly positioned. Da Vinci uses nickel- and gold-plated brass ferrules, which are rust resistant.
