Da Vinci's highest grade Kolinsky red sable brushes are produced with select winter hair from the Tobol River regions in Eastern Siberia. Because of the extreme cold in this region, the tail hair of the male has the longest and strongest hairs, the most select materials available for long liner brushes. Choose these brushes for precise, controlled brush strokes and detail work, such as lettering.
Expertly shaped, these fine artist brushes are unmatched for spring, resiliency, color-carrying capacity, and ability to hold a sharp edge or point. Color can be spread thinly and evenly for subtle shades of color, structuring, or layering. Use them for precise, controlled brush strokes, detail work, and fine blending.
In the sun-filled rooms of the Da Vinci factory, production masters, interns, and apprentices sit at marble working tables. Visitors often marvel at the calm atmosphere not usually found in a factory. They often compare it to a laboratory or studio, as the silence of concentration prevails, interrupted only by occasional consultation and conversation.
Brush hairs are glued into the ferrule by a dosing machine. Then the ferrule is filled with a modern component-glue. After the drying and curing process, all the hairs are firmly positioned. Da Vinci uses nickel- and gold-plated brass ferrules, which are rust resistant.
Straight Edge Liner — Similar to an outliner brush, but with a longer handle, its extra-long hairs taper to a flat, square end. With its huge color carrying capacity, the straight edge liner is useful for delicate lettering, outlining, and long continuous strokes.
Note — Brush sizes are not standardized. The length and width of a brush of a given shape and size varies considerably by manufacturer. Since fine art brushes are handmade, expect some variation even among brushes from a given manufacturer.
Comments about Da Vinci Brushes Da Vinci Kolinsky Red Sable Liners Series 1203, 1206, and 1210:
this is my favorite of all brushes to do branches and other details in paintings, can't live without it. Talking about the 1210 size 6. Would like for it to be a little cheaper.

The brushes will simply not hold their shape. The hair comes out like some cheap dollar store brush. I am very disapointed.
