I am not a big fan of synthetic brushes for watercolors, but this brush is an exception. I have 2" flat wash and love it!
Good for watercolors, good for acrylic, lay nice in a hand,good spring and pleasure to work with.

I bought a No. 12 and was so happy with the quality that I bough No. 4, No. 8, and No. 16 afterwards. They replaced all my synthetics and they are my favorite brushes for doing details and colors on small areas and I consequently didn't have to alternate between brushes. I also use mine for gouache.

The fibers are good quality. The nice point makes you reach tight areas just like the precision of a German car. These are in fact brushes made in Germany. All of my brushes retain pointed tip all the time. I never had loose strands even when mixing and rinsing hard. The lacquered finish is a fine touch.

The Series 5580 still doesn't replace my favorite Da Vinci Series 418 Quill and 5590 natural hair brushes as my primary brushes.

This product was demonstrated by my national award winning watercolor instructor and our class was impressed by the results. I purchased six brushes in various sizes and am happy with how easy they are to handle. The results are excellent. What makes them great are the compact size. They easily fit in the pocket of a small zippered brush holder. Traveling light for an artist, especially for outdoor projects and even just traveling from place to place, makes these brushes "must haves". Blick's prices and quick delivery are a major plus.

I was ready to send this brush back when I opened the box.. the protective sleeve had fallen off and the brush had a 90 degree bend in the hairs... one of the reasons I ordered this synthetic brush was for plein aire painting... and the abuse travel brushes have to take... so I wet it, swirled it in my brush cleaning soap... gave it a shake... and viola... straight with a very crisp point. It has proved to be a very nice detail brush and it snaps back very nicely.

Brush can hold a very nice amount of water and will create very detailed lines. Very pleased so far. It's still new though.

I bought a Round and a small Flat wash. These are very nice brushes that hold their own against the competition in the same price range-I can speak from first-hand experience there. They hold their shape well and apply watercolors in a very controlled manner. Save your money for the sable brushes and start with these. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Was recommended to me by a professional artist and I can see why...I call it the Rolls Royce of brushes. Hold a load of water, is very springy and has a fabulous point.

These brushes were recommended by a friend and professional painter then I was reading through a couple books on watercolor and the authors (professional watercolorists) mentioned them too. I decided to try a couple of the midsized brushes as I could afford them. They are by far the best watercolor brushes I've used. They hold paint well, glide on the paper/board, handle beautifully, and haven't begun to wear, shed, splay in 2 years. I've just bought a half dozen more of the larger, more expensive sizes and have used the 30 and 40 rounds and am amazed. I was hesitant because of the price but the results are worth it. Another reviewer mentioned using even the large brushes for washes and details both and I concur. The handling of the brush and the way the brush retains the point allows for this beautifully.
