I ordered the number 12 and unlike the other reviews I didnt find this brush very comparable to sable. Its much rougher and coarser and handles a bit differently. What bothered me was that the hair of the brush, right after I washed off the gum, were quite frizzy and consequently stray hair appear if the brush got any dryer than dripping wet. These "strays" aren't exactly pointing out at odd angles or anything, they just stand out from the body of the brush. Maybe this is because of the fitch hair and its supposed to be that way or maybe I just got a bad brush. The water holding capacity was good enough though and when flicked it did come to a point (which didnt last very long when painting owing to the rough texture of the hair)

I use it for watercolours but I think it could work well as a soft oil or acrylics brush too.

These brushes are in a class of their own. I love to work loose with juicy paint. I work alot with Squirrel hair mops, but wanted something with a bit more control and more holding copasity than a synthetic, and kolinsky sables were not in the budget. So I looked at mixed hair brushes and found these. From the reviews they sounded like really good brushes and was something I could afford. One said they were better than other Kolinsky sables they have used. So I got a #6, #8, #10, and a #12. They work great. They have the holding capasity of a squirrel hair mop with the control and spring of a sable. They hold alot of water and paint and come to a nice point. The #8,#10,and #12 have longer handles than your average watercolor brush which makes for a great counter balance or a looser stroke if held at the end. I like the shape of the handle where you normally hold it which is shaped like a pencil. This gives for a good feel in the hands and is very comfortable to hold. These are definently a welcomed addition to my brush collection.

I absolutely love this brush. I have tried 100% male Kolinsky sables that were much more expensive, and they aren't a fraction as good as this mixed hair maestro. Specifically, it doesn't separate, keeps it shape, has loads of hair, doesn't shed, keeps a point like another reviewer mentioned, and holds a ton of paint like the other reviewers mentioned. Seriously, I think I'm done with my search for the perfect brush--this one is it.

These brushes hold lots of paint, are very easy to control and have fabulous points so I don't need to swap brushes for finer detail.Much better than other large brushes I have tried.
