Welcome to dickblick
Russian Black Sable, also known as Russian Fitch, is a portrait or realist painter's dream. This brush represents a perfect balance of the best qualities of bristle and sable.
Black Sable is more stiff and substantial than Red Sable, but has an exceptional smoothness that leaves little stroke impression in the paint surface. The hair is extremely smooth. In fact, only certain master brushmakers at Da Vinci can form these fine tips without the hair slipping through their fingers.
In the sun-filled rooms of the Da Vinci factory, production masters, interns, and apprentices sit at marble working tables. Visitors often marvel at the calm atmosphere not usually found in a factory. They often compare it to a laboratory or studio, as the silence of concentration prevails, interrupted only by occasional consultation and conversation.
Brush hairs are glued into the ferrule by a dosing machine. Then the ferrule is filled with a modern component-glue. After the drying and curing process, all the hairs are firmly positioned. Da Vinci uses nickel- and gold-plated brass ferrules, which are rust resistant.
Thick Filbert, Series 1842
Each brush has the same dimensions as the Regular Filbert in its size, but extra hair and color handling capacity.

Comments about Da Vinci Brushes Da Vinci Black Sable Round:
I use these brushes for oil painting, they are precise and make blending colors seamless. Using quality brushes really make a difference in the outcome of my work. If you never used these brushes I urge you to try. They will outlast other brushes with proper care so they are well worth the investment.

Comments about Da Vinci Black Sable Filbert Series 1845:
Great brushes for doing fine work with oils. I found these brushes suit my needs when blending colors seamlessly together.
Finally a brush that holds it's shape
from Sulphur Springs, TX
I bought several brands of brushes. These seem the most natural and hold their shape better than any of the others I've tried.
Quality. Not the best avaialable but really solid brag for a comparatively fair price. Not as soft and smooth as pure sable but still really good.

Da Vinci Brushes are very good
from Tempe, Az
I have used many other manufacturer's sable brushes. Usually they loose their hairs like a balding old man, rather rapidly. This renders the brush unusable. Da Vinci Sable Brushes do not loose their hairs in such a fashion. Being made of sable the brushes perform quite well, superior.

The best of Sable Brushes
I have ordered and used over 60 DaVinci Sable brushes. I paint portraits in "Realism." I have used many other sable brushes. The Da Vinci Sable Brushes keep their hairs and of course perform up to the quality of all sable brushes. If you paint in "Realism" you must use a sable brush and Da Vinci are the best.
Excellent Sable Brushes

Fantanstic Oil Brushes
from Albany, GA
I have several red sable brushes and purchase one black sable brush as a test. Well, this has exceeded and beyond my expectations. It is good for floral, animals, and detail work in oils. No I would not use them to prime the canvas (like using china and crystal for a cook-out), but for that SPECIAL MASTERPIE to be sold or entered into a contest, then start with the best. I only wish that I could find some flat black sable brushes by this company. I am still looking, though.
