These durable wood-cased pastel pencils have the same pigment used in Cretacolor's Pastel Carré Sticks, a hard pastel, and so are intermixable. They give the same brilliant colors and high lightfastness.

Pastel pencils are characterized by especially soft, oil-free strokes.Colors are mixable, wipeable, and water-soluble. Fixing is required. Color-coded tips permit easy identification. Pencils are pre-sharpened.

These pencils are amazing! I purchased the 72 pack, wanting a variety of colors, and I was so pleased!! They are just as good, if not better than all other name brand pastel pencils I have purchased in the past. Very soft pigment, easy to blend, perfect for layering colors to make a combination, professional quality, and a great deal are just a few words that describe this product. The pencils also came with a piece of sandpaper which I have found makes sharpening so much easier. The thing I was most pleased about was the fact that these pencils did not break on me. Earlier sets from different brands have been too delicate to sharpen, and I have found in the past that I have used up the majority of some pencils just trying to get a tip. These are sturdy and strong while maintaining the high quality, soft pigment that pastel pencils are known for. After experiencing these I will never purchase another brand.

Cretacolor pastel pencils are terrific! I use them throughout my pastel paintings for fine details. You can use them to effortlessly blend into soft pastels for all kinds of effects. You can also use them by themselves for excellent results. Cretacolor has an excellent range of colors. Very easy to sharpen with a sharp utility knife. I hardly ever have them break. I recommend this brand highly!

These work for rough in and just sketching, but are a little hard for blending with or over soft or oil pastels. Fat over lean problem. They are difficult to sharpen, and break easily which is frustrating, and a waste of money and time. I use them for scrabbling, or outlining, or just by themselves for sketching. I recommend using soft pastel pencils for mixing with soft pastels.
