These durable wood-cased pastel pencils have the same pigment used in Cretacolor's Pastel Carré Sticks, a hard pastel, and so are intermixable. They give the same brilliant colors and high lightfastness.
Pastel pencils are characterized by especially soft, oil-free strokes.Colors are mixable, wipeable, and water-soluble. Fixing is required. Color-coded tips permit easy identification. Pencils are pre-sharpened.
Gift Idea —Pastel pencils are a great gift for any pastel, watercolor, or mixed media artist.Cretacolor Fine Art Pastel Pencil Sets come in both practical tinboxes and elegant wooden box sets.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

I was hoping for a softer pastel pencil. These work but require more layers.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Better suited for fine details work
Comments about Cretacolor Fine Art Pastel Pencil Sets:
I got the set of 72 and the colors are fantastic. However, they are rather hard and for me only good for fine detail work. I don't use them as much as my Stabilo Carbothello or Koh I Noor Giocanda which are smoother and creamier. If you're looking for something for detailing that needs a sharp point, the Cretacolor is for you.

Easy use...yet, sharpening the pencils has been problematic

I would buy these pencils again.

These pencil pastels are really soft and release the color easily I have tried the other pastel pencils and definitely these are my favorites.
This was a great gift for my new little artist
These pencils have a wonderful creamy texture
Even better than I expected!

I draw (sometimes paint) from a model once a week. These pastel pencils are perfect for the job. I can mix them with charcoal or graphite, or just have fun using a dark background and bring out the highlights. My only concern is sharpening them. I do know how to do it by hand, and then use sandpaper. Is this the best route?
I will continue to purchase this product int the future.

Personal art projct that I am working onr to sell. They are very smoth to use and blend, but they tend not they tend not to adhere will to the paper when fixitive is applied.
I bought the 72 set of these and most of them feel like charcoal. I'm not the biggest fan of how charcoal can squeek on paper, but the pigment is sound and coverage was what I exoected even on highly textured paper. They can be tricky to sharpen so I suggest the use of a lead pointer sandpaper pad and a knife. Hope this helps people know what to expect so they have a good experience with the product.
