Crescent Select is made of alpha-cellulose (wood pulp) fibers that have been chemically treated to eliminate the acids and lignins that can degrade your artwork and matboard.

Suitable for minimum levels of conservation framing and as an alternative to non-conservation matting, Crescent Select is ideal for fine art prints, limited editions, documents, and photos.

Acid-free. 4-ply.

I use it to mat large photographs. It's easy to use, and it's easy to tell the front from the back (a key for me). I wish it came in an intermediate size--I use 23x27 inches, so it's too big for the small size, but the 40 inch size means I have a lot of small cut mats, for which I have no use.

Local Hobby Lobby guy doubted acid-free

I don't know whether or not this matters, but I bought a Crescent Select mat and took it to my local Hobby Lobby to get it cut. The guy came out asking whether it was supposed to be acid free, and I said yes, but then he said that acid free boards will be the same color on the front and on the back, and that unfortunately, my board was colored on the front but blank white on the black. That indicated to him that it wasn't acid free. I think he's wrong since Crescent SAYS it's acid free on their website. Just be aware that he raised some doubt in my mind.
