A Great Substrate for painting with Acrylics and Collage
By Jim the illustrator
from West Palm Beach, FL
Comments about Crescent No. 100 Cold Press Illustration Board:
I have been painting for over 45 years and I started on Crescent Illustration 100/110 board using acrylic paints. I have never been disappointed with the quality, consistency and availability through Dick Black catalog/online store. The board holds up to the acrylic and the many techniques that I have subjected it too. I teach classes in Florida at several schools and I have listed this board a the suggested substrate for each session classes, no other substrate handles the medium as does Crescent Illustration board. Rather wet-in-wet or dry brush, glazing, opacity and even collage, mediums, modeling paste etc. Wonderful material, hope Crescent doesn't discontinue this, I can't imagine painting of anything else.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The thickness is exactly what I was looking for. I like thicker boards to withstand all the media that I use. It is perfect for just about any type of media. It withstood my Copic markers, graphite was outstanding to use on it, and it performed well with my Prismacolor pencils as well!

I've been an illustrator / designer for over thirty years and Crescent has always been the best when it comes to illustration boards. Living and working in Hawaii, it's at times quite challenging to find locally, but thanks to Dick Blick, it's always available. Even with shipping being an important consideration, it's a good solid value for the price and delivery is prompt.

Great for Pen and Ink media. Erases with Electric Eraser well without raising the tooth of the paper. Love it. Dick Blick is fast delivery and reliable company.

Crescent 100 Illustration board
I've use Crescent 100 Illustration board for quite a few years (over 30) as a foundation for my acrylic paintings and illustrations both as a professional graphic designer and as a professional painter. The range of use covers wet in wet to dry brush techniques . . . watercolor, acrylic, drawing, silk screens, pastels, mixed medium, collage, I haven't discover a technique that I use that won't work with the Crescent board. Now retired and teaching, I use this board with my classes for both traditional and mixed medium abstract. It's a priced right tool and brings out the best of my work. It's true that I've tested the limit and the only downside is you can saturate the board with too much wet in wet technique causing it to warp somewhat. However, I allow the board to dry out or even wet the backside to bring it back in shape. It's a great substrate.

I use this for colored pencil art when I use Mineral Spirits. The 300 stands up to lots of punishment. Want to try this weight....

I just graduated from high school so now I have to fend for myself and get my own art supplies. I love illustration board and the thickness of this one makes it very durable. I suggest for those who want this board and they like to cut it into smaller sizes should also get a good trimmer/cutting table.
My go-to illustration board
from Humboldt, TN
I buy the 24 ply because I like the fact that it doesn't flex and is heavy and rigid enough to hold its shape after framing. I primarily do elaborate pencil drawings, and this board stand up to multiple erasure and doesn't "dent" easily. I would like it to be made in 16 x 20 size in addition to 15 x 20, which I buy in bulk, because I would like it if I didn't always need to use a mat to fit the frames at 16 x 20.
Great product & fast shipping

I was not certain if this illustration board would work as well as I hoped for the type of project I was doing, but I was not disappointed. The boards were perfect for the art. The markers did not bleed and the colored pencils went on smoothly and covered well. I would recommend this product and this company as well, as the purchase process was easy, the shipment was on time and the quality was great.
