Comments about Crescent No. 100 Cold Press Illustration Board:
I have been using Crescent Illustration for over 40 years and found it to be the best for my type of contemporary acrylic painting. I teach and it's also the board that I use to create and instruct students while creating collage pieces. Thru the years the board has been slightly reduced in thickness that concern me at the onset but proved to be acceptable once I got use to that factor. Keep producing this great product (I might add that I have tried many other materials but always found the quality to be the best.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Crescent 100 Illustration board
from West Palm Beach, Florida
I have used Crescent 100 Illustration board for probably 45 years. I began using this product to create illustration work for the aircraft industry in the late 1970's. I used dyes and airbrush to create original aircraft renderings in numerous settings for trade shows in Washington DC and to sell individual aircraft packages (exterior and interior design) as a first look illustration to prospective clients. Through the years Crescent illustration board my favorite watercolor surface for creating original watercolors that have received painting awards (such as the Grumbacher Gold Award with the Kansas Watercolor Society Annual) and has been sold to over a thousand patrons through the greater MidWest exhibitions and art fairs. This product offers a unique surface for the rigors of wet-in-wet to dry brush technique. A surface that absorbs watercolor, dyes, acrylics, oils, pastels with a wonderful textural paper foundation. This surface is one that I create collages and it can handle matte and gloss mediums, modeling paste, scratching and scraping that are evident in my work. I'm currently doing demonstrations and teaching watercolor/acrylic classes and Crescent 100 Illustration board is the recommended and required surface used myself and the students. Hopefully the company doesn't decide to replace or discontinue this product, no other surface (and I have experimented with a number of other surfaces both in the Crescent family and others) will equal what I find in product.

Best Illustration Board Available
from Bella Vista, AR
I use two kinds of illustration board, Crescent, and Strathmore. Both are excellent boards. The Crescent board is best for traditional watercolor paintings where you need good absorption characteristics, and an excellent surface to work on. I use the Strathmore for my multimedia using colored artist markers, gouache, and pen and ink.
Just What I Was Looking For

I haven't started using the board yet, but it's the first time in a long time that I was able to find the right board. I've used this brand since high school (2006) so I'm no stranger to it. It's my favorite brand of boards.

This is the only board I use
from Indianapolis, IN
Over the years I have tried many different substrates for my art, but the Crescent 100 board is far and away the most versatile board out there. Great for almost every media, whether it's dry or used as a base for wet media. Want a nice canvas board? Glue your linen or canvas, gesso and sand a couple times and voila! As nice a board as you can purchase pre-made, and in whatever size you need. Want a super-smooth surface? Gesso both sides (to keep from warping)and give the top side 3 coats, sanding with very fine grit paper in between. Want a toothy surface for pastels? Gesso with additives. Need to reproduce your painting? The rag top paper easily peels right off of the board so the painting can wrap around the drum for color separations. I've found that the natural tooth of the board accepts many layers of colored pencil, so long as you don't burnish, yet erases very well. It's just the best board going! Strong, durable, sturdy and I won't purchase anything else as nothing I've tried compares.

Stands up to whatever you do to it!

The paper thickness over the backing really stands up to abuse. I recently had to rinse off the paint I had applied because it was a disaster. The board dried without warping and I was able to reuse it.
