Mastering Yupo: Techniques for Synthetic Paper is a "must-see" for anyone working with synthetic paper, as National Gold Medal winner George James opens up the creative possibilities and eliminates the frustrations often associated with painting on Yupo.
James has developed a process that promotes predictable results and a creative flexibility unheard of on regular watercolor paper. In this DVD, he demonstrates his techniques for achieving variegated and smooth washes, lifting, ghosting, spattering, stamping, carving luminous darks, and lifting whites. He also shares his techniques for inventing rich surface textures and luminous dark passages.
James is generous with his knowledge and clearly explains the theory behind his every move, giving viewers the understanding of how to anticipate and create desired effects.

Gorge James made painting with watercolor on Yupo paper an exciting video to watch. He thoroughly explained what he does and why, what can happen with the addition of water, stamping, and stencils. I really enjoyed the video and George's description of the process.

Yippy for Yupo
from West Hills, CA
Yupo paper is new material for me. I was hesitant about its uses and the video removed my worries. The watercolor artist was great and demonstrated a number of techniques such as stamping and blending that any artist can use. I suggest for future videos that he demonstrate alcohol inks on Yupo.
