I am a high school art teacher on a charter school budget. I needed a large set of quality colored pencils for a good price. In a side-by-side study, I tested the blending and overall visual quality of the pencils I had on hand--Prismacolor, Reeves, Sargent, and Crayola. The results really suprised me. I could easily see that Prismacolor and Crayola looked much richer, brighter, and smoother than the other two. I knew Prismacolor would look great, but I had no idea that Crayola would look so good (especially since they seem to market more to young children). The two were almost indistinguishable. Obviously, I went with Crayola since it's 5 times less expensive! To avoid wax bloom, I simply sprayed artist fixative. No problem. By the way, even Prismacolor wax blooms. If money is not an issue, go with Prisma--it's professional quality. If you're on a budget, go with Crayola.

Why are the colors different in the 2 sizes of classpacks? I always buy the larger classpack, but this time I didn't have enough money. So, I bought the smaller one. I was VERY unhappy to find out that in the smaller boxes the RASPBERRY color was traded for SKY BLUE. I need the raspberry (which is a stupid name for Red-Violet)to use for our color wheel assignments. I don't understand why they would change the colors in the smaller box! We don't need sky blue as students can make it themselves by pressing lightly with blue and burnishing with white. This is irritating!

The pencils are great. My review is more about the service received. In an age where customer service is actually a thing of the past, I was amazed by how seamless and easy this transaction was. I will order again and again. Not only were the prices very competitive, shipping was almost immediate. My thanks to this team. If I could give more than 5 stars, I most certainly would.

I used crayola color pencils all the time and they are great just like any art material. Even though they do not as many variety of colors as the other kinds of color pencils are, they still last a while, unlike the prismacolor color pencils I use that only last me a few weeks.

sure they're cheap but wax bloom??
good for little kids..
but if you're really serious about art try something else. They are VERY VERY waxy.
If you DO need colored pencils and for cheap I'd try prismacolor scholars , sargent color , prang , faber-castell red line
