The Sienna Horizon Easel is a reinvention of an old classic!

Designed with ergonomics and ease of use in mind, the Sienna Horizon Easel includes a canvas holder that's easy to adjust, a pochade box, three birch palettes, a built-in spirit level, and much more. It is ¾ the size of a standard French easel — less bulky yet spacious enough for all your painting supplies.

All the adjustments of the canvas holder, lid angle, and legs are controlled with easy-to-adjust plastic star knobs. Rubber bumpers securely hold stretched canvases and allow painting to the edge. The metal panel clips keep the panel firmly in place and allow easy access to the edge of the panel.

The unique lid design of the Horizon Easel keeps the weight evenly distributed over the middle of the easel and allows easy access to your supplies and work area. The lid can be adjusted to any angle, including completely flat.

The large storage compartment easily holds 12 tubes of paint, and the brush compartment holds a large selection of brushes and palette knives. The stainless steel solvent can is carried inside the easel when traveling and fits in a dedicated spot in the front of the easel when painting.

The palette (pochade) box contains three birch palettes for mixing oils and acrylics. There are built-in stops on the bottom of the palette box, enabling users to slide the palette over the front edge of the easel to gain access to paints and brushes when setting up the palette for painting.

Brush holes are located on both sides of the open palette for keeping your wet brushes neatly organized while painting. When you’re done for the day, simply close the palette box for cleanup back at home or in the studio. The handy paper towel holder on the front of the easel keeps a standard roll of paper towels (not included) within easy reach.

Overall dimensions of the easel are 60"H × 25"W × 40"D (152 cm × 64 cm × 102 cm). When the easel is folded, the dimensions are 7"H × 13"W × 22"L (18 cm × 33 cm × 56 cm).

It accommodates canvases up to 30.5" (77 cm) high. The maximum table/palette height is 35.5" (90 cm). Weighs 14.5 lbs (6.6 kg).

I'm very pleased with this easel. It is well constructed and sealed with a lacquer that resists paint absorbtion, unlike many of the elm wood easels out there, which have a tacky finish.

The larger, black, star-shaped adjusting knobs are easy to crank down so that once you've set up the easel, it stays in place and it is also easy to re-adjust. If you've ever tried loosening one of those small, knurled brass nuts on other easels, once they are tightened down well enough to secure the easel, it is sometimes painful to the fingertips to loosen them again.

This easel also comes with the fold-out palette, which gives you three mixing areas and places to keep loaded brushes standing upright along the perimeter. It has channels routed in the bottom so that is stays in position when open and placed on the easel.

The paper towel holder is very handy and mounts in just the right spot at the front of the easel, below the palette. The solvent container is excellent and has a removable brush washing screen at the bottom and its own place for storage while transporting as well as another designated place while painting.

There is room to portage everything you need for field painting. While not the lightest or the most compact, it is a reasonable size and weight and would not be difficult to portage for distances less than a mile or so. With a backpack, I would consider taking it just about anywhere, regardless of distance.

My only criticism is that when fully collapsed, the folded support legs have a tendency to want to fly away from the body because the magnets that hold them in place are not strong enough. A bungy cord wrapped around the lot would remedy this quite well.

The easel looks like a nice piece of furniture. It would be complicated for someone who hasn't owned a french easel to set this up quickly. The wood it is made out of is too soft and when tightening down the star bolts you must put a washer on the easel in order to not destroy the wood by gouging. This easel is made in China which isn't something I am happy about.
The palette that is enclosed is ingenious but you need to use a piece of glass rather than the cheap wood that is installed in it. I will definitely leave it up rather than have to deal with all the things you have to tighten before you can begin using the easel. I still love the look of it though.
