The reviewer below who claimed that this color wheel is only useful for dyes is sadly misinformed. It is quite possible to use the CMY color wheel to mix oil paints and many artists do so, including me. The CMY color wheel is just another model to explore color theory, just as the RBY color wheel is a model of a color theory.

I'm not sure why this person was unable to use this wheel for oil paint mixing. Maimeri makes a "Try Out Set" of the three primary colors in oils, cyan, magenta, and yellow, and you can produce what many artists consider a wider range of saturated colors in oils using this model.

The CMY color wheel is a very useful tool for those wishing to explore this particular model of color theory.

I use this color wheel with my own paintings, done in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pencil or pastels. Complimentary colors are the same no matter what medium is used. Complimentary colors can be identified by staring at a color for one minute and then looking at a piece of white paper, which I have my students do to teach them about complimentaries. Afterwards I have them make simple one sided color wheels based on this color wheel, since it's so much faster than staring one minute at a time each time a complimentary is needed. Most students who see this wheel like the double side which shows tints and shades. They buy out my extras so that I'm constantly buying more of these wheels. This is an excellent tool to teach and learn about colors.

OK, I stopped buying watercolors that have products in them that are poisonous. Paint now only with Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Permanent Red Deep. I sometimes buy the standard 4 earth colors. They can be mixed from the three, CYM, just easier to have these premixed.

Printers are CMY and black based, you seen anything they can't print? I find using CMY a lot easier to deal with when painting than the light based red, yellow, blue and trying to apply it to paper,canvas.

I ordered this wheel thinking it could be used with oil paints. Unfortunately, [...] does not tell you that this wheel is useless with oil paint. I found the information on another paint store online. This wheel is for dyes, Not paint!! Not to say the product is unusable, only unusable for painters.
