The absorbent primer used on this linen is intended for traditional styles of painting using tempera. The linen canvas is first sized using a synthetic glue to protect the fabric from acidic oils, and to lend rigidity to the canvas for ease of stretching. Next, it is primed with two layers of chalk bound with rabbit skin glue. The chalk absorbs paint and gives a flat "fresco type" look to your painting.
