Chroma Atelier Interactive Artists' Acrylics are the world's only acrylic paints that can be used for conventional acrylic painting techniques, but when needed, artists can easily take advantage of their unique ability to rehydrate for blending techniques.

Chroma Atelier Interactive can be used for ordinary acrylic painting effects such as overpainting, scumbling, or glazing when used on its own — or for extraordinary wet-in-wet blending effects by simply using a water sprayer during a normal painting session. The next day — or days later — use Unlocking Formula to blend, reveal, or scratch back. The techniques and methods employed are readily accessible to beginners and professionals alike.

Atelier Interactive can be mixed with any other professional artist acrylic, but the paint will not rehydrate as when mixed with other Interactive colors.

There is a learning curve

This product is a very flexible painting system.
I have found that thin coats of Atelier, when re-opened, tend to block up as patches of color; I was expecting to be able to blend another thin coat. Thicker coats re-open and work far better.
My preferred technique for large areas such as a sky, is to add very thick coats of Clear Painting Medium over and into the color layer to facilitate the blending. This can get fairly messy.
As noted by other reviewers, atelier curing time can be a bit dicey, especially when using the Slow Mediums. Err on the side of moderation in their use. These days, if I use a slowing medium, I treat it like an oil painting.
Out of the several hundred tubes of Atelier that I have bought, five or six seem to have separated into color and medium. About as many tubes have become very dry but useable.

I teach painting at a community college and think the Atelier Interactives are the best acrylics for the money. I LOVE their versatility of use. Paint with a watercolor method ..or use oil techniques...great either way. The ability to "undo" a passage makes these paints unique in the field. The color saturation is tops. I encourage all my students to paint with them because they dry more slowly and are "fixable" a real plus with new students. As a professional.I love the feel of the paint and the ease of use. The only acrylics i now use.

I love my Chroma Atelier Interactive Professional Artists' Acrylics. They are the most versatile paints I ever used. I used them along with their Chroma Atelier Mediums and I am enjoying experimenting with them all. You can paint in the traditional acrylic style when you add the Fast Medium Fixer, or if you feel like oils spray some water, the unlocking formula or add a slow medium. A big plus for me was no harsh chemicals. You can water down the paint on a watercolor palette if you are in the mood for watercolors. You can also use a slow medium to keep things moist. Way cool!

The colors are creamy, strong and vibrant. I have to wear sunglasses with a few of them though. If Dr. Seuss Land isn't for you just toned down those bright ones and get a rich deep color instead. I had to tone down the transparent perinone orange when I used it at full strength. That color is WOW! You either love it or hate it. I bought it because transparent colors and semi transparent colors are better to water down for watercolors. You can still use opaque ones but use very little paint. I did buy the starter kit for plein air painting this summer and I plan to use them like watercolors when I go outdoors. Seriously when doing the watercolor style a little goes a long way.

I also used a covered palette to help keep the paints from drying out and if there is extra paint left I just seal it up for another day. I urge you to visit the Chroma website and watched all the videos they have on these paints and mediums. If you are nervous start small with one of the two small sets. Honestly after you done your research and your homework it's really up to your imagination what you can do with these paints and mediums. I took a chance and tried something new and learned something new in the process. I saved some money in a tight economy buying an artist grade paint that became whatever I wanted when the muse hit me. As a wife, mom, and fine artist, it doesn't get any better, especially if you buy them from Blick. Love ya Blick!!!

I was a little hesitant at first when buying them, but later when i started to paint I was glad I did. I mixed the Atelier with other brands such as Blick Acrylic and I really like how the blended. Especially, the effects I could get on canvas as I blended.

Acrylics is my medium; but a lot of practice heeds to be done with this type of paint. Yes, it is easily movable and changeable, but waiting for complete drying (such as oil) before sealing it. I would not recommend for commissioned paitnings if there is a time crunch. However, this paint can really save a painting, or be great when blending is a must (sky, earth, shadows) is where I use it most. I mix mine with regular acrylics. Also, laying down a wet gloss medium on a canvas prior to beginnign is not recommended.

Love the vibrancy of the pigments. The colors are very true. My only complaint is that they don't stay open as long as I thought they might. They wet to dry time is fairly standard.

The acrylic paints I use in combination are Golden, Lascaux and Chroma Atelier Interactive paints. I find this paint to be excellent among these top three brands. The pigment load is as high as any of these brands, including Liquitex, and it dries without that excessive plastic-look prone to Liquitex paints. I also love the open, extended drying time of this paint. It's a fantastic paint, and one I love to use.

I tried these out 2 years ago and have been using them solely ever since. I love how they blend, and how brilliant the colors are. I use them with a brush, and also my fingers. I've developed finger painting techniques with them that I quite enjoy, and have great results. I definitely recommend these paints.
