Not sharp and covered with stinky oil

Comments about Conda Carving Chisel Set:

I knew from the price that the chisels might not be of great quality, but I didn't expect them to be ground only to a 45-50° angle (anything greater than 30° isn't sharp enough for any type of cut). The two V-profile chisels were ground to an 85° angle, so will take quite a while to grind to a good cutting angle. The chisels were also coated with stinky oil (maybe used motor oil?).

I haven't decided if the set is worth the time and effort in grinding them to a good cutting angle or if I should just send them back. I'll have to price grinding services.

Just so you know, Dick Blick doesn't list the widths and profiles of the set for some unknown reason. So, here they are: Four have curved profiles in 3/4", 5/8", 3/8" and 1/2" widths. One has a flat profile in 1" width. Two are V-gouges in 1/4" and 3/8" widths.

The set doesn't come with any information such as what lubricant to use with the sharpening stones (water or oil). I hope Dick Blick can give me that information.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
