The quality of Neocolor II Aquarelle Artists’ Crayons is universally acknowledged. Their excellent lightfastness, high pigment concentration, and adaptability to a variety of techniques have put them in a class of their own.
Neocolor II Crayons are softer than colored pencils, denser than children’s wax crayons, and extremely responsive to a wet brush. Wet and dry techniques can be combined in the same drawing. Because of their strong pigmentation, light colors cover dark colors and vice-versa.
Neocolors are soft enough to smudge with your fingertips, yet much firmer than oil pastels. Scrape off one or more layers of color to create an engraved sgraffito effect. They can also be combined with Caran d’Ache Pablo Colored Pencils. Best of all, they’re watersoluble.
Individual Neocolor II Crayons measure 105 mm long × 10 mm diameter (4-1/8" × 5/16").

I love these w/c crayons
Comments about Caran d'Ache Neocolor II Artists' Crayons:
This is the third brand of w/c crayons I have tried and they are the best yet. They are soft, but not too soft, lay lots of color down on the paper, respond immediately to water when it is applied so they don't have to be "scrubbed" at to blend, and have a large selection of colors available. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for excellent w/c crayons.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Best Watercolor Utensils Ever!
I do a lot of watercolor painting and sometimes I use watercolor pencils (mostly Derwent Inktense) and these crayons are an INCREDIBLE addition! It feels more like a paint stick - so smooth! I'll do detail with the pencil and then fill in areas with these buttery crayons. I can't believe the freedom these have added to my work! I can't believe how rich the pigment is! And when the paper is already wet - the crayon glides rich pigment down, as rich as paint! It doesn't leave behind the 'hard' mark either. I've purchased 14 of these and am about to buy 30 more! Yes! I love them that much!

Perfect for Mixed Media
from Windsor, CT
I love using Caran d'Ache Crayons for drawing into a painting. I use them with acrylics and inks to get distinctive lines for added interesting in paintings. The pigment load and the lightfast quality make them the go to for a professional mixed media artwork. Would love to see them produced in larger and thicker crayons for broader lines.

Amazing saturated color! Easy to use!
from Durant OK
A little goes a long way! You can use it in more than one way. Simply color directly on your page. Do this sparingly leaving while area in between to help create a light base. You can always add more on top after to riches the intensity of the color. Or if you prefer- simply swipe a couple of times across the crayon with a wet brush and load the pigment directly to your brush. Just as you would a pallet watercolor. No mess! They are smooth to work with, and so easy to use!
Wonderful quality. Using them in Bible journaling....delicious colors!
Creamy and smooth
from Bangor, Maine
These are creamy and smooth going on and the color is gorgeous when activated. After water is added all of the lay down lines disappear.
Love the Neocolor!!
Smooth and colorful, nice pigment. Must have for mixed media and journaling projects.
Caran d/Ache works for messy me
from NE MISS
I am just too uncoordinated to keep from making an absolute mess of everything with soft pastels. I am elderly and have a bit of a hand tremor but using the Caran d'Ache in conjunction after with a wet brush works grandly for me. I just wish I were financially able to purchase one of the 40 crayon or higher sets. But being retired and living in a retirement facility keeps me on a strict budget.
Great color! Easy to Use.
Love the ability to use these on my mixed media projects. Really gives some great color and so easy to use.
Neocolor II is a water soluble artist crayon made from high quality, lightfast pigments. They are softer than colored pencils and denser than wax crayons. When used on their own, Neocolor II Crayons are smooth drawing instruments great for sketching and filling in large areas. When used with water, they become an intensely vibrant and luminous watercolor paint. They can even be used to draw on glass, metal and other non-porous surfaces.
