With its high transparency and extra smooth finish, Vidalon Vellum is suitable for line drawing, pencil, ink, fiber tip, and technical pens. It is resistant to scraping and repeated erasure.

Sturdy yet translucent workhorse

I use this paper to compose drawings that I'll complete on other paper. I can complete work with this paper more quickly than on a computer or a light table. I draw my picture on the face, flip it over to identify flaws and sketch in corrections with a Col-Erase pencil, then flip the page back to make the corrections in graphite, and then erase the Col-Erase from the back. I can then scan or graphite transfer the drawing to canvas or watercolor paper that I'll do my actual artwork on.

PROS:
* Silky smooth surface for precision work.
* Shows the faintest graphite lines clearly.
* Accepts ink without any bleeding or blooming.
* Handles heavy erasing without any deteriorating.
* Translucent so you can flip the paper over and see what you draw on the other side clearly.

CONS:
* Not ideal for display, the faint lines and buckled appearance isn't pretty. However, this isn't an issue because I use these only for the sketches and not the final artwork.
* Page buckles with use. I have to use a clothes iron to flatten it enough so I can scan it, but can never get it perfectly smooth.
* Tricky to scan. Shadows in the buckles of the translucent areas can be dark, however using the Curves feature of Photoshop fixes these quickly.

A beautiful see-through vellum surface. I love Canson Vellum.
My ink lines stay clean, no bleeding or absorbing down beyond the surface. Equal good results with ink or felt tips. The smooth surface can take having a small mistake carefully scratched off, or to create an effect. This vellum is the best I've ever worked with. I have a super-large project, and rolls of cheaper vellum I tried were OK for preliminary sketches, but not suitable for the final professional job. I'm thrilled I found the CANSON Vellum in a roll for this project.
