New to pastels....but like this paper
from Washington, DC
Comments about Canson Mi-Teintes Pads:
I have just begun to use pastels, so I cannot really compare it to other pastel supports, other than some multi-media paper. What I can say is that the colors are very nice, so if you are looking for toned pastel papers, the Mi-Teintes pads are an excellent, economical choice. I have used this paper with hard pastels (Nupastels) as well as softer sticks (Rembrandt, Sennelier, panpastels, and pastel pencils. It takes the pastel nicely. Because it is not sanded, the tooth fills after 2-3 layers, so if you like to layer many colors, this would not be the support for you.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Love at first sight!

The colors are intense and they glide on the paper as smoothly as butter.

I have been buying this paper for sometime. I use it for portrait and figure drawings using pastels. I find the beautiful background colors bring my drawings to life like no others I have used. I find the quality of the paper to be excellent and will continue to purchase it in the future. I find this art medium to be the one I have been searching for and am very excited about how wonderful my art has become.

Better Than I Thought

In the past I was a faithful user of Wallis sanded pastel paper and had a hard time finding a suitable replacement at a decent cost. I am happy to report that the Canson pads are very good and I will utilize them again but will most likely get the paper with more grit.

Canson makes a nice line of colored papers suitable for college or high school art students. Nice variety of pigment paper colors of photography backdrops. Texture suitable for chaulk and other dry medium. Sturdy sheets suitable for drawing board in life drawing class. Good value per sheet. Reminds me of when I carried sheets in portfolio to academy drawing studio classes.
Perfect for Pastels!
from Liberty Twp, OH
I've been a professional portrait artist for 40 years, and my preferred medium is pastel. This is the BEST pastel paper, and is the only kind I'll use. Both sides have a great "tooth" for holding the medium (I prefer the smoother side because it doesn't leave a "pattern" on the drawing). It's heavy, and comes in a nice variety of colors. You can feel the quality as soon as you touch this paper. The price of this paper has remained rather steady throughout the years - it's very affordable. It really holds the chalk. I love this stuff, and always keep a big supply of it on hand.

Great for Pastel Portraits!
By Leeshy Art

I love this paper for portraits. I use the smooth side instead for my work. I dislike the textured side for the type of artwork that I do because it leaves a basketball like texture over my work. The paper holds my constant rubbing and blending, holds the color and keeps the pastels locked on the paper. I love it. I also will use sanded paper but mi-tienes paper is good for when you want a softer look and when you want to use the colors in the paper through your artwork. Highly recommend. Also, I received some paper with a few dents in it. I'm extremely picky with my supplies. Dick Blick is by far the best supplier. They paid for me to ship it back and resent what I requested. They have also given me 100% refunds every time I was unsatisfied. I have been using them for over 10 years now, they are always the best price and I will not use any other supplier.
