Value studies before your watercolor master piece ?
from Washington, DC
Comments about Canson Mi-Teintes Drawing Papers:
Flannel grey is a perfect color. Add white and black watercolor to do a perfect value study before committing things to color an more expensive paper.

One of the best choice for a pastels drawing
Excellent Paper for pastels or colored pencils or drawing
By Tom, pencil artist
from Albany, NY
There are several companies that make pastel papers but I think the best quality for the value is with Canson Mi-Tientes. I and my students use these papers not only for pastels but also for graphite and colored pencils. They are very workable in the sense you can usually put down a few layers of color. They are good for any dry medium.

This paper is great. I use it for colored pencil drawings and it's great. The color pops, the tooth is nice. It has a nice weight to it. Really good paper.

Too Coarse for Pastels
By John the Newby
from Denver, CO
As a newby pastelist, I bought the Canson Mi-Tientes pad as a relatively inexpensive way to develop my skills. I found, however, that the "vellum" side intended for pastels is way too textured to accept even soft pastels--I use Sennelier soft pastels. I was burning through my expensive pastels in a futile attempt to fill the depressions in the paper, with unsatisfactory results. I'm going to try the smooth side to see if it accepts pastels better, but my go-to surface will be Ampersand panels, which work great.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I just love the smooth side of this paper for soft pastel. I also love the range of colors that are available! However, I am not a fan of the textured side as it's tooth is just too rough and the pattern of the tooth is too repetitious, for my taste. Many times, the paper arrives damaged with thumbprints, folds and oil spots...so I always order two if I am in a hurry or if its for a time sensitive commission.
A good paper product for the price, & nice choice of colors.

I am using this product for a class I'm teaching. I have used it before and it is a good choice for beginners.
Good paper, excellent value
By Leica Mike
from Seaford, NY
Toned paper makes for nice sketching outdoors. There is no blinding white page ruining your vision. I use colored pencils to pull the lights and darks on middle toned Mi-Tients papers and especially like the gray tones. Use a soft colored, pro grade pencil, like Faber Castell.
Canson's range of dual surface papers offer not only quality and versatility but are also economical. This video will introduce you to each of these special sheets.
