Best paper for my pet portraits
from Westerville, OH
Comments about Canson Foundation Bristol Pads:
I use this vellum paper to draw people's pets for them. I ordered the wrong paper and dick Blick worked hard to make everything right for me. I could not be happier.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A must have

Oh, please... I got a bunch of these pads and I keep buying them. Always good for penciling and inking and watercolor. I use markers on them as well.
Canson Bristol Smooth paper 9x12 in 100 lb
from Peoria IL
This brand was specified by my university instructor for our course in "Color" to be used with gouache and collage. It is a very bright white, consistent quality, and sturdy paper. I have not used every brand of bristol paper available in the world, but have used two or three others and this is as good or better than anything I've used in the past. The surface is VERY smooth, accepts the water based paint we are using and provides excellent results.

Excellent Bristol, better quality than Strathmore
from Alameda, CA
Required for an art course at a local atelier, it is the most superior quality drawing paper on the market. It improves my drawing in every way.

Nice Bristol, White A Little Cool
By Jimo the Giant
from Rhode Island
Pads are nice clean bristol. Accepts ink ok, depending on the source. Prefer white to be slightly warm in my drawings, so this cool white cools off some of the inks.
This Vellum paper is gorgeous, I'm buying more in 9x12 and will get some in 11x14. I am in love with the smoothness and that pencil marks erase clean. Only thing I can say to beware of is if you tend to press down hard when you draw, those lines show. I used a sharp 4H pencil and erased it and has fine ghost lines on my drawing. I've remedied the ghost line issue by using a clean paper stump, (which are good to have on hand and inexpensive on this site). This smooths the indentations away if you work it like and eraser over the area. I'm happy with this paper and have more in my cart.

This Canson paper is really smooth and easy to work on. Love it!
It's fine for markers, watercolor even for serigraph.

I got myself a few smooth bristol pads (11 x 14) and I have not been able to get away from them. Pencil, pen, and guache works fantastically on this stuff, although pens and ink need a bit of time to dry or else it will smudge (only about 5 minutes for 100% dryness). Very fun to use compared to regular paper and clean. X-acto users beware though, this stuff is a bit tough to cut through, if that's what you do. You'll be pressing pretty hard onto the paper and there's a small chance it might end up breaking the blade. If you don't do that or you're willing to risk it, this stuff is great for cutting out art.Haven't tried other bristol pads so I can't compare, sorry!

Great Quality Paper
from Baltimore, MD
I bought this as a gift for a young family member who loves to draw the Fairy Tale Anime characters. She was taping 8.5" X 11" papers together to create a larger picture. I thought a large Bristol pad would give her the opportunity to express herself on a better quality paper and on one large sheet. In addition, I bought another name brand bristol pad for the same person. As she continues drawing and painting, she'll be able to compare the qualities of both types of paper on the different medium she uses, possibly using one type of paper with one medium and the other paper for another medium. I love options when it comes to art supplies!
