Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks are oil-based relief/block printing inks that are easy to clean up with soap and water. Made from polymerized vegetable oil and artist-quality pigments, they produce a unique product that is suitable for all types of block printing, including wood engraving, linocut, woodcut, and letterpress printing with photopolymer plates.
Safe Wash Relief Inks print on a wide range of papers with the quality, intensity, and precision of an oil-based ink yet they're safe for use by beginners and experienced printmakers. Because no solvents are required for cleanup, they're ideal for printmakers who desire a non-toxic studio environment.
The Safe Wash Relief Ink range consists of a variety of high-strength colors, including a set of process colors for CMYK printing or mixing. Every color has a lightfast value of at least 6 on the International Blue Wool Scale (BWS).

Really nice colors, easy clean up
By Woodblock girl

Comments about Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks:
I use these inks for woodcuts. They pick up fine details and are far superior in terms of color, detail and quality to water based ink. I clean up with a little vegetable oil, then soap and water. Much less messy than using soap first.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I like better than Akua
I am new to lino and block printing and just learning about the medium. I like the Caligo ink better than the Akua due to its constancy and it seems to dry better. I have some Akua prints pressed in news print that a year later are still not dry. It could be user error but I don't think so. If you are a novice like myself try the Caligo inks first.
YES, you should try this ink!!!

I was introduced to this oil based but soap and water washable ink through another printmaker. I have a table full of oil based litho inks that I use for relief printing, but have just purchased more Caligo Inks to work with. Great colors, mix well, and very EASY to clean up! I spend much less time cleaning and do not need to break out the paint thinner at all. The only product in the line that does not perform as well as the traditional oil based items is the transparent base. So, if I mix traditional oil based tint base with Caligo it works very well, but clean up must be with vegetable oil or paint thinner.
I have been using waterbased speedball inks with little success. But these caligo inks are delicious, rich and remain workable for a long time.
Excellent quality, beautiful results.

Caligo Safe Wash relief inks deliver as promised. The color is saturated and beautiful, clean up is surprisingly easy for an oil-based ink. Soap and water, or vegetable oil are all that's needed.
I will buy and rebuy
from Pacific Northwest
Caligo Relief Inks clean up in soap and water, yet are permanent upon drying and will not smear when re-wetted unlike other water soluble printing inks. The colors are beautiful, neither chalky nor dull. If you live in a cold climate, you may want some of the Caligo Oil to thin the ink a tiny bit to make them more spreadable.
High Quality Ink
This ink makes Relief Printmaking accessible for me again since I cannot tolerate the use of solvents and water-based inks simply do not work as well. The ink cleans up as advertised and handles like oil-based inks. I can't really compare value since I don't buy other types of ink.
Great quality, easy cleanup
from Washington, DC
I have only used water-based printing inks until now, so I don't really know how the Caligo safe-wash inks compare to other oil-based inks. With that caveat, I think this product is awesome. Unlike the Speedball inks I've been using, the Caligo ink gets to the right consistency quickly; I don't have to roll the brayer over it for more than 10 seconds. It transfers to the block nicely and doesn't bleed. And cleanup is just as easy as with water-based inks. I'll never go back.

Best Inks EVER!!!!
I've used a variety of brands of relief inks and have finally found the BEST. This ink is creamy and ready to roll right out of the tube without the need of modifiers. I used it on a Gomuban block which can be tricky to ink and it printed perfectly!!!! The next day all my prints were dry and ready for a second printing. Clean up was a breeze. I used Krud Cutter biodegradable cleaner and in less than a minute the glass work surface was completely clean. Same with the beaters. I highly recommend Caligo Safe Wash relief inks. I purchased the large tubes, every color!!! So glad I gave it a try.
