Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks are oil-based relief/block printing inks that are easy to clean up with soap and water. Made from polymerized vegetable oil and artist-quality pigments, they produce a unique product that is suitable for all types of block printing, including wood engraving, linocut, woodcut, and letterpress printing with photopolymer plates.
Safe Wash Relief Inks print on a wide range of papers with the quality, intensity, and precision of an oil-based ink yet they're safe for use by beginners and experienced printmakers. Because no solvents are required for cleanup, they're ideal for printmakers who desire a non-toxic studio environment.
The Safe Wash Relief Ink range consists of a variety of high-strength colors, including a set of process colors for CMYK printing or mixing. Every color has a lightfast value of at least 6 on the International Blue Wool Scale (BWS).

Comments about Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks:
I use this because it is so much easier to clean up than regular oil-based inks while also giving a very rich tone. Probably not as rich as an oil color, but really close. It also allows me to watercolor the print after drying for a day or two.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great Monoprint Inks
By Diane the artist teacher
from Minneapolis, MN
I used this ink with my Advanced 2d and AP Studio Art students after trying it our at a workshop that I attended. The colors roll out expectionally well and you are able to achieve some excellent transparent veils of color build up. They may also be diluted and used with a brush on your printing surface. The very best thing about them is the quality for the pricing, water clean-up, and the professional quality that you are able to achieve by using these inks.
Just love these inks

These relief inks are my favorite. The pigments are beautiful. They are easy to work with and the clean up is a breeze.

These inks replace the Daniel Smith water soluble inks that I have been using for years which are no longer available. They work great, especially using lots of extender base. Clean up is a little harder - soap first, then hot water but it is relatively easy. Colors have a good range but need an additional green. Because they stay open longer, there is little dried out ink to throw away. A good replacement for oil inks - they are oil based but water soluble. I use them for relief printmaking mostly without a press.

I use this ink mostly for relief and monoprinting. It print beautifully, and cleans up easily. My only reserve is the small amounts of driers in the inks. I appreciate the faster drying time, but could maybe do without the small amount of toxicity.Anyway, it's the best soap and water washeable ink I've used. I'd reccomend it to anyone printing at home or in a studio.
First time using oil base ink.

Hand pulling Lino prints. I love that these are oil based but easily cleaned up with soap and water. Excellent to work with.
Love love love this ink. Best of both worlds. Oil based and easy clean with soap and water! The blue may take some alcohol to really clean up, fyi. The only disappointment is my local store doesn't carry this product. Well worth the wait! Thank you Caligo for making a superior product!!

Great results for letterpress
By Superfine Press
from Milwaukee, WI
I use this ink in my home studio for letterpress printing, mostly using vintage wood type. I wanted a way to avoid the chemicals usually required for clean up since my studio is in my house. These inks have good pigment and a texture/viscosity that is similar to rubber and oil based inks. Clean up with water is amazing, and means that I can wash my own rags without worry.

Easy to clean up
from Cedar Falls, IA
These inks are a good alternative for oil inks. You can use them to print and then paint w/water color over without them running. They clean up with wipes and dish-washing liquid. One needs to find a balance as far as additives and it's good to use a cobalt dryer to hurry the process.
