Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks are oil-based relief/block printing inks that are easy to clean up with soap and water. Made from polymerized vegetable oil and artist-quality pigments, they produce a unique product that is suitable for all types of block printing, including wood engraving, linocut, woodcut, and letterpress printing with photopolymer plates.

Safe Wash Relief Inks print on a wide range of papers with the quality, intensity, and precision of an oil-based ink yet they're safe for use by beginners and experienced printmakers. Because no solvents are required for cleanup, they're ideal for printmakers who desire a non-toxic studio environment.

The Safe Wash Relief Ink range consists of a variety of high-strength colors, including a set of process colors for CMYK printing or mixing. Every color has a lightfast value of at least 6 on the International Blue Wool Scale (BWS).

Transparent Extender — Use this product to control the color strength of Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks.

Safe Wash Oil — Use this oil to dilute Caligo Safe Wash Inks.

Wiping Compound — Use this product to modify the tack of Caligo Safe Wash Inks.

Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

The best water-washable block ink...

I've tried pretty much all the oil-based water-washable block printing inks on the market, and I always come back to Caligo. They are high quality well pigmented inks that print beautifully and clean so easily. Just a dab of rubbing alcohol on a rag soaks up all the left over ink (though soap and water work exqually well).

The icing on the cake for this product is the fact that they offer process colors for their water-washable block printing inks. I have yet to find a comperable product that does this, and I'm so greatful Caligo has these in all sizes.

Open drying time is on par with any oil based ink. Maybe too good, as certain pigments (the red ones like Napthol) have a hard time drying on the paper if applied too thick. This happens when I print by hand on thick paper, but do not have these problems printing with a press.

Probably a few more dollars more than their counterparts, but worth it.

I have been printing professionally for years and just discovered this ink. This is a wonderful! Prints evenly, nice and crisp, good rich color. And best of all, it's oil-based (plant oil!) but cleans up with soap and water. I don't have to worry about toxic vapor issues anymore.

If you are THINKING about buying it to try...JUST DO IT! You WONT regret it! I finally bit the bullet and paid the extra price for this and WOW...I don't regret it. This is officially my new ink. I wont buy anything else (altho for water-based I do enjoy the DB brand, fyi). I am super cheap because I have 4 kids, I don't think it's priced too terribly high, just to clarify lol
A little goes a long way, my test pulls off lino (battleship grey if you're wondering) came out pretty dark, and I didn't ink it very well, so that spoke volumes to me.

Over all I WILL buy again and I HAVE recomended this to people already. If you're reading this, you're thinking about it...just click BUY!
