These oil-based etching inks feel and work like traditional oil-based inks, yet clean up wih soap and water — no solvents required!

Made from the finest single pigments and polymerized vegetable oil, Caligo Safe Wash Etching Inks are suitable for printing all kinds of block printing, including wood engraving, linocut, woodcut, and letterpress printing with photopolymer plates.

These colors stay bright and clean when mixed. The inks are made without driers, they dry like traditional etching inks, and they can be printed on a wide range of papers with a quality, intensity, and precision of an oil-based ink. Their strength and transparency can be controlled by adding Caligo Safe Wash Etching Extender.

Available in 19 high-strength colors, including a set of process colors for CMYK printing or mixing, every color in the range carries a lightfastness rating of 6 or higher on the International Blue Wool Scale. A small amount of a metallic drier (such as cobalt drier) will speed up their drying time.

Conforms to ASTM D-4236.

Transparent Extender — Use this product to control the color strength of Caligo Safe Wash Etching Inks.

Safe Wash Oil — Use this oil to dilute Caligo Safe Wash Inks.

Wiping Compound — Use this product to modify the tack of Caligo Safe Wash Inks.

Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

i bought this ink because i was really fed up with the lack of quality water-based inks, but did not have the capabilities to deal with oil-based clean up. this is a very happy medium. i've only used the black ink, but it prints as well as a good oil-based ink should. nice thick dense ink, long open dry time, just as oil-ink should be.

the clean up was a breeze. quick, without any chemicals, just soap and water. it's got a really odd smell, though. but that's not a big deal, and will be buying this brand again.

Everything was excellent from ordering to receiving my shipment. I will continue to buy my art supplies through Blick on line. The only problem I had was with my white ink. It was a marshmello texture and had little gritty lumps in it. The tube was also slightly crushed in shipment. The other tubes of ink were fine.
