I bought single pencils of these
from NEW YORK
I color adult coloring pages and teach a class. I like how the color goes down on the paper and blends well but the pencils break when sharpening them. I have several kinds and they are the only ones that break. I don't know if they were handled roughly before they were shipped but I am disappointed in them. If they didn't break they would be fantastic. I would warn a friend that there might be a problem with breakage.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Perfect for all artists

Bruynzeel pencils are highly pigmented, bold and smooth colors. I use them on birch panels as well as paper and they preform wonderfully on both. They have a very consistent and gliding type of feel to them as they move across a surface. They also come in compact in an impressive and box set with foam lined drawers that slide in and out. If you get multiple Bruynzeel sets then you can stack them up, which saves desk space and keeps them organized. They are also very lightweight, because the leads are encased in cedar wood. Despite the pencils being thin, I've never had problems sharpening them, or the lead breaking inside the pencil. Which means you waste less pencil in the sharpener and have more to use for art. My favorite thing about them is that they do not bloom like other wax-based pencils. They do not show the directionality of their stroke, and are very easy to layer. This means that even though there are only 48 colors, the possibility of mixing and making your own are endless. Perfect for professional artists, but also a great beginning set for students or artists just starting out. All around a high quality pencil and great company.

Not my favorite
from Central NY
These are nice colored pencils but they are not my favorite brand. I have been testing out different brands of colored pencils and different brands and types of paper to see what I like the best. These pencils are fine. It is just my personal preference that I don't particularly care for their feel on the paper I have tested them on. My opinion could change as I use them more, and perhaps on a different brand or paper.

Good pencils. nice lay down of color. Bright, blend well. Only con is ones that say Sakura ,in open stock, are slimmer than ones I bought in set.
Love these colored pencils.
I use these colored pencils to color in coloring books. I love how smooth they lay down, and the colors are vibrant. I am very pleased with my purchase, and will buy more as I need them.
Terrific brand of pencils. Wish more colors were available in sets.
Nice blendability but odd colors
from San Antonio, TX
I find these nice and soft and very blendable but I didn't like the color selection. The colors are oddly toned to me. Much prefer Lyra or Prisma one polychromos.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Bruynzeel pencils are a close second to Caran d'Ache (my personal favorite) and much better price. AND Bruynzeel sells them individually here on dickblick.com - yay! The Bruynzeels are buttery smooth with loads of color and I would recommend them over Prismacolor any day. I always order colored pencils online. I've bought many individual pencils in art stores that were completely shattered and unusable due to I assume customers dropping them, or them being jostled around in shipping. Far less chance of that with online orders.

I wanted pencils for "adult" coloring. These pencils are great. They are very smooth, almost creamy. I love them.
