Blick Tempera Cakes provide concentrated, brilliant color in a convenient package. Simply moisten the cake with a brush, and paint as you would with an opaque tempera or a watercolor wash.
Compare the convenience of tempera cakes with liquid tempera. There is no spillage, no waste, and no overload of color when using tempera cakes. They are easier for a group of children to share, and easier to manage in a classroom.
Blick Tempera Cakes are extra large, measuring 2¼" × 2¼" × ¾" (about 6 cm × 6 cm × 2 cm). Each cake weighs over 4 ounces (113 g). That's enough color to last through many classroom projects!
Blick Tempera Cakes, like Blick's famous liquid temperas, are manufactured only with safe, non-toxic, natural ingredients, which makes them perfect for younger children.

My students enjoy using them

Comments about Blick Tempera Cakes:
It takes a lot of water to activate the paint, but the colors are very nice. My students used them in a pointillism project and found lollipop sticks and cotton swabs to make very effective dots. These are great for a tight budget.

Great way to paint with young students!
from St. Louis, Missouri
My youngest students want to paint each day in art. Using tempera cakes, I can provide that experience. With a variety of colors, they are easy to distribute, use, and clean up. I recommend placing paint in easy to use six hole plastic tray.
My elementary students love to paint with these tempera cakes. They are nice bright colors that last for a long time!
Love Tempera Cakes for K-5 Visual Art Classes!
By S. Weiss

I use these for Art Classes in grades K-5. I love the quality, vibrancy and colors. They are affordable and durable. The only complaint I have is the shipping of these items was a little messy. Many cakes were broken and the powder shattered all over the box leaving a mess. All said and done though, we will be able to use them to make fabulous artwork!

Love Tempera Cakes
from Marion, Indiana
I teach elementary art and these paints save me so much time and money!! Rather than constantly pouring paint during my prep, I can just set these out on each table for my students to use. With liquid tempera paint I end up throwing away a lot of mixed colors that don't get used because, let's face it, no matter how often I tell students to rinse their brush first, then dab it, they don't and then we have black mixed in with yellow and so on and so forth. With these tempera cakes, if colors get mixed, you can just run the tray under water and wipe them off.
We LOVE these paints!

My elementary students really love these paints. I love them because they are easy to use, clean up, and produce vibrant colors. They are versatile because you easily control the colors being used. They dry fairly quickly and we have never had any paints to develop mold like some other tempera cakes we have used.
Good for experimenting!
from Charlottesville, VA
I used these with summer art camp students, to have them experience mixing their own paint (in a cost-effective way!). I set up stations for them to try grating the cake to get powdered pigment, then mixing with either egg yolk, water, or oil. This cake formula worked well with all of those and the kids learned a lot.I have only used them for that activity so far - just grating, not the whole cake.

painting oriental style works well with these paints
from San Pedro, CA
My budget could only handle the 6 color palette. The kids have to mix orange, brown , and purple. I use them for kinder and the black is a problem. I will order brown and purple to replace the white and black.
