For quality, dependability and affordability there is no better choice than Blick Studio Traditional Grade Canvas. Economically priced for students and professionals with a ¾" profile, it is the perfect high-quality substrate for compositions or studies. We start with a 7 oz, pre-primed 100% cotton duck canvas and add 3 coats of acid free titanium gesso. Final post primed, finished weights reach approximately 10.5 oz. This canvas is then hand stretched and stapled around solid wood stretchers. You can forget about time consuming preparation. Studio canvas is the perfect balance of high quality and economy.

Blick Studio Traditional Profile canvases are built for permanence and stability in applications where a lighter-weight stretcher bar is adequate:

I am new to oil painting. Painting is a hobbie for me, not a profession! Working on canvas panels is not the same "feel" as stretched canvas. I ordered several in multiple sizes to get the best price. I have not had any of them rip, stretch, wobble or warp. They are perfect for what I am doing and the price in bulk can't be beat.

Cheap low quality canvas

I ordered eight of these canvases, tried them, and here's what I found:
1) Some of them are warped, so they'll wobble on the easel.
2) On two of them the crossbrace was bent and touched the canvas from behind which made it unusable for painting glazing strokes as the paint revealed the crossbrace behind.
3) On at least one of them, the sides are not straight but bent so it's hard to frame on a canvas floater.
4) The wood is not that good so the frame cannot be reused too many times (if you want to restretch the canvas or put another canvas)

The pros:
They are cheap
Perfect for quick sketch paintings or for playing around with paint

In a nutshell, unless you are a beginner, I think it's better to spend a couple more bucks and get something else that is straight, more solid, and more reusable. I will try Blick's Premier line on my next order.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Received order today. Canvas tears like paper - no effort at all. Package says 7oz weight, 10oz primed. I say 3 oz. I will be returning this low quality product for sure.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The price for 5 36" x 36" canvases was perfect as I needed them for a workshop not knowing what the outcome would be. As it turned out, I had 5 good works from the class and couldn't have been happier with my choice from Dick Blick. A really good value.

I paint often (art for childrens' rooms, in watered down acrylics) and I use the 12 x 12 & 11 x 14 sizes. I keep coming back to these again & again. The canvas surface used to be smoother (a couple years ago)...the quality has gone down. There are sometimes bumps (fabric "slubs") that show up after I paint them. Sometimes the canvas is too textured. All that being said, though, I do like these canvases enough to keep ordering them again & again! Great value, esp when I buy 20+ at a time. I've ordered hundreds over the years and I have never had one damaged in shipping, either! I would recommend them, even with the not-perfect canvas surface.
