Welcome to dickblick
These ready-to-paint panels primed with acrylic gesso provide an exceptional painting surface for oils and acrylics. The fine, canvas-like tooth of the surface allows for great brush control and intensity of color. Gently sanding the surface of the board with very fine sandpaper produces an even finer tooth or a totally smooth surface, ideal for detail work, while still retaining the layer of gesso.
The 3/8" Flat panel is heavy-duty, warp-resistant MDF that will stand solidly on an easel. Frame it or simply hang it on a wall using the built-in hang hole.
The 3/4" (2 cm) Traditional panel is framable, while the 1-1/2" (4 cm) Gallery panel requires no framing. Both feature a cradled birch plywood frame mounted flush to the edge of the panel. The sides can be stained, waxed, or painted if desired.
These are affordable, acrylic gessoed boards for artists, students, and leisure painters!

Not crazy about the texture!
By Disgruntled person.
from Do you know the way to San Jose, lalala
I gotta say, I was buying these as a treat for myself, but I am NOT crazy at ALL about the texture! I am giving two stars ONLY because, had I scrolled through ALL the photos, there is one of the texture up close at the very end- but somehow, I missed this. When I think of painting on a nice, gessoed panel, I am envisioning a smooth surface that will accept even the tiniest detail. This is not that surface, at least, not for me.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Quick & easy painting!
Perfect for creating those quick and easy, cash & carry items many of us have available for art fairs! Only thing better would be ihaving the edges pre-taped.
always happy with these boards

I gave up using linen canvas. too much trouble to protect from damage. for shipping to shows out of state these boards are much easier. another thing I personally like about these panels is the 3/4 gallery wrapped edges. there can still be framed or finish the edges and hang right away and I love being able to pick up my art while painting or moving around by the edge ..no potential smudging like flat boards! I use a lot of paint in my work, so the surface it great for me, but it you do a lot of fine detail you probably would prefer a smoother board. the only thing I have seen that I'm cautious about is that the frame the board it set (firmly) on is pieced milled together like particle board. a couple have come in with gaps in the layers making me wonder if they will warp or give way someday. however, Blicks return policy is so good , that I'm sure if you had a real issue with it they would replace the board. they have replaced a tube of paint and three brushes to date for me and I'm very happy with their quick service and willingness to help.all three of these oil paintings were done on these boards.

WARNING! Not a smooth surface!
from Dallas, TX
Beware if you are looking for a smooth, primed surface. The surface of these is a fake, mechanically produced "fine, canvas-like" surface. If I had read the product description more carefully, I would have realized that they are not smooth. Maybe some people like this. But for me, why would you buy a panel if you wanted a canvas-like texture? I'm hoping to be able to sand the heck out of it to get it smooth. Defeats the purpose of buying it preprimed. So far, I've spent a LOT of time sanding. Will not buy again.

I use the panels by adhering Yupo to the surface, then applying mixed media. They were, by far, the least expensive and work just as well as the more expensive brand I had been using.
I love these boards!
I use these to mount artwork on as well as paint on. they are so smooth and easy to paint on!
Good for mounting in a frame
I have recently bought frames and canvases from various retailers and some fit and some don't which is frustrating. I tried these and because they can be easily cut they fit no matter what. The surface takes acrylic paint well and the 3/8" thickness is deep enough to screw into when framing. They are totally flat; no warping.
Great base for wall art

Using these boards both to paint on directly and to adhere artwork done on paper gives me a great finished piece. So much easier than framing or cutting heavy plywood panels. Love these!
