I use colored pencils in conjunction with pen and ink. I love the contrast and the suggested detail of using ink with my pencils. I was tired of the lead breakage and cores popping out of my other wax based pencils, so I sold them all off. I made a recent trip to Galesburg, Il. to the Blick store and bought the 72 pack. Then thru the internet I completed it with the other colors including the fantastic set of 12 greys. The colors lay down very nicely without any wax bloom. I am sold on these pencils, and I'm not even talking about the low price!

Over the past few years, I have puchased open stock Blick colored pencils which are always available. I find the quality is excellent. The lay down of pigment is exceptional. Comparison in price is also a decidng factor which has allowed me to add to the array of pencils already in my working studio. It allows budget minded students and working artists the ability to continue being productive!

I was hoping to find a similar product to Prisma Pencils. This was not a good choice. Blick Artists' Colored Pencils have too much wax and they do not layer or blend well. Prisma Scholar would have been a better choice. I won't buy these again.

These silver and gold pencils have lots of metallic pigment and the gold in particular is wonderful. Gold pencils from other manufacturers are not true gold and do not have as much pigment. Good job here!

I have been working hard to get light layers with other pencils and was not able to do so. I got these and was amazed, I have finally created something that looks like art. They blend great,I was able to have different tones without digging into the paper. lynn

These pencils provide a nice alernative to Prismas. They are a bit harder - less buttery, but they still have a nice feel. They blend a bit differently - more like an oil-based pencil, but that is something that one can get used to. My only complaint in that the handling qualities seem to differ a bit, between colours. However, that hasn't proven to be a big problem. The overall quality is good. They are much more reliable than what Prismas are now. I use them with Polychromos and the Prismas I have left. They play nicely with other brands. Lightfast ratings are available and the price is a very good value.

There are two big negatives with these pencils 1) they are not as soft as Prismacolor and therefore don't lay down color as consistently and 2) they react (become powdery) to a some fixatives! The problem with hoe they react with fixatives recently ruined a finished commissioned piece I did. After completion, I sprayed it with the Prismacolor Matte Fixative and the black, dark olive and light olive Blick colors turned to a light gray powder, destroying the piece. I've since tried another brand of fixative on the other Bick colors and they all reacted in the same fashion.

If you use a fixative and Blick pencils, TEST IT FIRST!

Unfortunately, my first experience with these pencils will be my last.

I have over 1000 colored pencils, all brands, all media. I thought Fantasia was my favorite, but after a support staff emailed me with comparable colors, including Caran D'ache and Prismacolor, they suggested a "Dick Blick colored pencil" to match another brand that does not sell "open stock" I was trying to duplicate without buying the whole set.
When I got the pencil, I found myself using the two colors of the blick pencils over and over.

They are like butter. I have a Fantasia oil pencil and it is identical to these. I have been looking for an oil pencil set and have not found any with a variety of colors.

Even tho' this is NOT an oil pencil, who cares if it acts like one.

I just ordered the complete set of 72 Dick Blick Studio pencils.

So now I will have 1072 pencils. Once they get here, the others will be shelved for an emergency.

this is my third purchase of this line and they are an excellent product.
I use them for coloring after stamping a scene with rubberstamps on matte paper or envelopes.
